An Interview With Alana Thompson, Our Twitch Producer
Recently Goodman Games sat down with Alana Thompson to ask about all things Twitch! Let’s get the basics out of the way: who are you and what is it you do for Goodman Games? I’m Alana Thompson, also known as Vitani Maru on Twitch, and I’m the Twitch producer for Goodman Games. I also edit and upload videos to the YouTube channel so people who haven’t been able to watch our shows live can still get a chance to watch them at their leisure. How did you get introduced to gaming and Goodman Games in particular? My father and brother are huge gaming fans. Both have their share of stories that I love hearing about. A lot of those stories are what turned me toward tabletop gaming. He ran shows for a bit during the pandemic, and he introduced me to Goodman Games. Fell in love with the crew and company the minute I started helping out with shows in 2020. You’ve been doing the Twitch thing for a while now. What is your background there? I was introduced to Twitch via gaming channels and esports tournaments I started watching back in 2014 or 2015. I started up my own channel where I played mostly games from the Fallout series. When I get the time, I stream Fallout New Vegas, Cyberpunk 2077, or some multiplayer games with friends. Recently, I’ve been streaming my (somewhat) weekly sessions of Dungeons and Dragons with friends. After I started doing Twitch streams, I got interested in electronic media and more interested in journalism. This brought me into going to school for it. Tell us some of the details about your current college work. I’m enrolled at Shippensburg University in their Communications/Journalism program. In the electronic media program, I study programming media, ethics, production tricks and all sorts of things. How are you able to apply that to your work for Goodman Games? Most of what I’ve learned has been helpful toward growing...
