With the holidays approaching and cold winter days spent indoors beside a toasty fire, it’s going to be a great time to brush up on your Appendix N reading! Appendix N is the classic bibliography of D&D inspirational sources that Gary Gygax printed in the 1979 edition of the Dungeon Master’s Guide. There are a lot of books on that list, so if you want to someone to help guide you – and perhaps a community to read them with – here are some suggestions!
Appendix N Book Club
First, there’s the Appendix N Book Club. This new podcast appeared earlier this year. The hosts have already recorded more than a dozen episodes covering a wide range of Appendix N titles! You can listen to the Appendix N Book Club here.
Sanctum Secorum
Then, of course there is Sanctum Secorum, which plumbs the depths of Appendix N as it applies to DCC RPG. Each show reviews one piece of Appendix N media — be it literature or film — and then discusses how to bring aspects of it to the table for your DCC game. We explore how the selected piece might already easily fit into particular modules and DCC settings, and we highlight one specific DCC module that really ties into the Appendix N material. Sanctum Secorum has nearly 30 episodes recorded with PDF supplements that provide game stats for many. Listen to it here!
Spellburn
And don’t forget about Spellburn! The original DCC RPG podcast is close to recording their 60th episode. Although Spellburn doesn’t focus on Appendix N per se, the topics often come close and of course are of interest to all Appendix N fans. Listen to Spellburn right here!
