DCC Level 2 – Keep off the Borderlands

You don’t know how it happened, but one look at your surroundings after the storm clears reveals you’re far, far from home. Gone are the green trees and blue waters you’re familiar with; an alienlandscape stands in their place.

All around you is a red-lit plain, barren and desolate of any growing thing. The hard soil beneath your feet is only vaguely discernable beneath a layer of dust hanging above it like a groundfog. The sky overhead is the color of drying blood, lit by a most unwholesome sun. Instead of a brilliant orb of burning yellow, you see a black disk as dark as night hanging in the sky. The ebon sun is surrounded by a corona of leaping flames, burning strands that illuminate the land below but never once cross the sun’s dark face.

To your…west, perhaps…a wall of purple-black mountains runs from horizon to horizon, throwing long shadows across the featureless plain. Not each of these titanic piles of stone appears natural, however. Some peaks have the silhouettes of humans, beasts, and other, less recognizable things. It’s as if some terrible hand
turned the mountains into blasphemous idols.

Looking into the distance in other directions reveals nothing but bare plain stretching to the horizon…
