A Super Time at Strategicon: Gamex!

Brad Littman reports from Strategicon: Gamex!

Hello, this is Brad, the Socal/Southwest/willing to travel Goodman Games con rep. (I did meet someone who plays DCC in Hong Kong and well I have never been there.) After an immensely fun Gamex 2024 I am feeling tired and loopy. As if that wasn’t already obvious by the fact that I stuck a yarn pigeon on a bunch of DCC dice I have and took a picture.

The Convention Pigeon has come home to roost and is now recovering on a nest of DCC RPG dice. The as-yet-unnamed yarn pigeon is tired after a Memorial Day Weekend spent gaming in Los Angeles at the LAX Hilton for Gamex 2024.

I had a lot of fun in the Dealer’s Room. A frequent friendly customer gave me that yarn pigeon and as you can see I am having tons of fun with it. I won a T-shirt that is a size too small. Oh Well. Every convention I always vow to not buy any more dice, but I totally broke that promise at this con. I am a diceaholic after all.

At the booth I sold some rare items I had on display, the Leatherbound Cthulu Alphabet and the Oversize Deluxe Edition of the Metamorphosis Alpha. It was nice to see those leave the booth and go to good homes.

I always enjoy talking with the regular crew of DCC players who come to all the Strategicons and cram as many sessions of DCC into their schedule as they can. Pictures of some of them are down below. Thanks to Judge Cro for sending me a bunch. I also enjoy meeting the people who played DCC for the first time and then excitedly come to the booth to share their experiences and see all the interesting products we have.

There were a lot of DCC games being played, close to 18. So many that DCC just kind of took over a whole room. Many classic adventures like Tower of the Black Pearl, They Served Brandolyn Red, Veiled Vaults of the Onyx Queen and Night of the Bog Beast were run.

Another highlight was the introduction of DCC After Dark. Evening sessions that ran various games showing off the weirder and wilder range of DCC RPG. For beginners and regulars alike. One game involved trying to rescue missing children taken by a hippie commune in the 1960s. There were a couple of multi-table tournaments being run with table hopping as players experienced death. I love these kinds of games, even though I sadly could not play in any of them.

As always a special thanks to Victor and the crew of the dealer’s room. And the Rev Dak for helping me at the booth and transporting all the goods down to the LAX Hilton.

That is all for me. I am tired. See you in September for Gateway 2024. I should be awake by then.
