Greg Setliff (a.k.a. Bug Professor) with Canthon Games is running a Kickstarter for his bug-based 0-level funnel adventure for DCC RPG, inspired by the periodical cicada. The introductory module contains a 20-page adventure steeped in horror, fantasy, and sci-fi tropes.
This summer, across swathes of North America, trillions of periodical cicadas are simultaneously emerging from subterranean cells in an epic 13–17-year long game of hide-and-seek. This year is particularly auspicious because multiple broods of these amazing insects will be above ground at the same time in some parts of their range! Where these broods overlap, there will be a brief but impressive insect-apocalypse the likes of which few will ever live to see again.
So, how does one commemorate such a once-in-a-lifetime natural phenomenon? Well, at Canthon Games, we make an adventure module out of it! Yep, we turned those harmless, dare I say, cute little cicadas into terrifying, blood-thirsty monsters and statted ’em up for your gaming table!

Hidden among the barren wastes and rocky crags of the northern Kingdom of Brennen is a peaceful valley high in the mountains – it is a veritable paradise.
This paradise, however, is cursed. For countless centuries, every 173 years, the inhabitants of this idyllic valley vanish without a trace. Without survivors to tell their tale, the legend of the cursed valley is soon forgotten.
Peasants, with their short memories and empty bellies, do not allow the valley’s abandoned fields do not stay fallow for long. And so, the cursed valley is once again repopulated, for a while…
Now the time of terror has returned! It falls to your provincial band of peasants to gather what tools they can and investigate the villagers’ disappearance.
