Contest to name a DCC spell?

Post by DCCfan »

How about a contest to rename D&D spells with DCC inspired names? I know you have a list already but it might be fun to see what the fans come up with. Just a thought.

From DCC#10
First entry: Nockmort's Skin instead of Barkskin.
Second entry: Nockmort's Insidious Influence instead of Warp Wood

I'm making no claim for quality, but I'll keep the ball rolling:

Ur-Utu's mystic projectiles instead of magic missile.

Cool idea. I love the suggestions so far. I don't know how fancy of a contest I want to get involved in but keep posting the suggestions here and I'll try to come up with something cool as a prize...nothing fancy, mind you, but something cool...

Perhaps spell names should be limited to those which mirror magic-using characters in the DCC modules.

I was thinking that most of the AD&D spells with names attached (e.g. Bigby, Tenser, etc) were named after PCs in Gary's world. Since we lack a common resource such as a single campaign, perhaps we should limit names to characters in the DCC. That would give some degree of meaning to them, instead of stapling random names with spells.

Just my two coppers.

I agree that the name should have something to do with the DCC line. Nockmort was an evil treant from DCC#10.

I'm fine with that. It makes sense.

The names I selected were from ancient history (my favorite topic :D ).

DCCfan,

I'm reading your posts. I've just not had the time to contribute.

I think its a neat idea. Perhaps you should get this moved to the DCC RPG forum. I'd bet more would notice your thread.

Done. (And a bump.)

But if you had kept quiet, you certainly would have won the contest. ;)

These are all great ideas. I will definitely find a way to use them in the published work. Maybe not a contest - maybe just credit them to you guys as appropriate - but I really like where this is going!
