Epic adventure series leading to all out war

Post by MrHemlocks »

I have been running my Blackmarsh campaign, with many additions, for about two years now. It has been going great but seems to be dragging a bit and loosing something along the way. So, decided to turn my campaign into a mini struggle for the survival of all free peoples of Blackmarsh.

My grouped played so many different adventures and most of which had nothing to do with the others. Too many one shots and not enough epic 'stuff'. Like going from reading short stories from various different comics to epic struggles of good vs evil like those in The Dark Tower series and LotR trilogy.

Has GG, or any other RPG, ever made a large, fantasy, adventure series that led to a large scale battle at its conclusion? I would so like to read it and possibly draw some ideas from it for my own campaign.

TSR put out it's H-series, Bloodstone Pass, during the 2nd Edition years. It had major wars in it and was for high level play.

That's all that comes to this tired mind this morning.

Good luck. My gaming has always wound up being a collection of short stories with very little long story arching campaign.

Mine have been a series of short stories and novels that I can never seem to finish reading.

One that you might consider as an example to base your own on, not necessarily to run directly, is DragonLance. All the tropes of epic storytelling are there and fleshed out in adventure form. I was never a big fan of anything passed the first adventure, but I think they did a good job of translating the "novel" experience to adventure modules.

Ultimately, though, your players are probably going to dictate how epic your story can be. At least, that's been my experience.
