Hello all,
This will be my first post so forgive me if my question has been addressed ad nauseum. I did a search and came up empty with the keywords "video" and "actual play".
I have been DMing a couple 4E games for a few years now. One game is for my two daughters and their friends. It was their first experience with a table-top rpg and they have loved it, but I am anxious to run a game for them that is closer to what I played when I was their age.
DCC seems to be that game. It just looks and feels right (as I read it). Are there any actual play videos out there that you would recommend? I have found that I learn a lot about running a game by watching someone else first. A picture's worth a thousand words and all...
Thanks in advance for any help!

FWIW, I second the Spellburn suggestion, and will point out that episode 8 had a short section where they were 'playing'. Not quite a real game, but sorta...
There are also some play-by-post games going on right here on the forum (one is linked in my signature), though they seem to have hit a lull lately.

Thanks.... I'll check out the podcasts. I have read through the DCC tome and am thinking that I'll need to go back through with a highlighter and some page/chapter/random tables tabs. It seemed like a lot of important info was buried in somewhat obscure locations.
So, I'll be "judging".... Should I encourage my players to all have a copy of the book or have you guys just been passing one copy around? Have you been copying any pages for the different classes? Any charts or tables that I should keep at the ready more than others?
I would be very interested in any advice from the more experienced judges about what resources from the book you deem most important and keep at the ready.
Level 0 will be easy enough but after that, it looks like the information tree really branches out exponentially for the classes.
Sorry, I know this is all newbie stuff. I'm in DCC kindergarten.

Hello DM Marcus!
I only have one core book at my table. Some of players have it in pdf and read parts of it. The core rules themselves are very simple, but the game does use a few charts here and there. I recommend printing out the DCC RPG Reference Sheets (you can find them here: http://peoplethemwithmonsters.blogspot. ... urces.html) and if you have a spell-caster, then the spells for him. That will speed up gameplay, which is already quite fast compared to games like D&D 3rd and 4th edition.

Great! We played in our Paragon level 4E game tonight and one battle lasted an hour and a half.... I'm ready for a change....
So, first, I'll be running them through the funnel... I've been reading threads on the "Portal..."
Any advice to make it a memorable introduction to the game? Any ways that you made your run through the portal scenario stand out? Did you have the giant snake stay in his room or let him wander out? Did anyone have whoever sits in the "star chair" become mesmorized and make some sort of saving throw to escape?
I'm open to great ideas!

Short battle? In my limited paragon 4E experience, battles lasted almost the entire game session (3-4 hours). In the epic tier, they usually lasted about 2 hours.DM Marcus wrote:Great! On your origional question, we have 2 copies of the rulebook at our table, but a single one would suffice, really.
I do not know of any video showing a game of DCC in action. I would assume that it's just like any other RPG, but with the specific DCC flavor that is more something you feel when you play than you see.
Good luck and have fun playing!
