Barrowmaze I & II covenversion to DCC

Post by MrHemlocks »

WOW! I found these little jems by accident...Barrowmaze I & II http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/product/9 ... I?src=s_pi , AND http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/product/1 ... I?src=s_pi .

After reading some information about them I really think these could fit many DCC adventures. There gigantic! The two would takes months to complete. Has anyone run either of these? Do you think they woud be very difficult converting to DCC?

They are super-easy to convert to DCC.

Even in a campaign with many other things going on, the Barrowmaze is a great place to have on the map. First off, new groups of 0-levels can always take a quick trip there, hoping for fame and survival.

Make sure you pick up Crawl! #3 for a quick method of dealing with old-school spells, and you're golden. In some cases, you will need to figure out save DCs and bonuses for monsters, you will need to flip ACs, and you might want to "make monsters mysterious" or simply change the descriptions of some things in order to increase player unease.

I have been using Barrowmaze with DCC both online (http://unseenservant.us/forum/viewforum.php?f=36) and in my home game. It rocks.
SoBH pbp:

Cathbad the Meek (herbalist Wizard 1): AC 9; 4 hp; S 7, A 7, St 10, P 17, I 13, L 8; Neutral; Club, herbs, 50' rope, 50 cp; -1 to melee attack rolls. Hideous scar.

Barrowmaze is fantastic!

I did some conversion work for my home game -- some of it is playtested, but not all.

This has spell conversions, my method for generating undead (which may be a bit too high powered), magic items conversion by room (up to room 47), and Nergal as a patron.

This doc is a conversion of monsters through room 53. Most of them are "uniqu-i-fied."

Thanks for the tips in this thread on the basis of these posts (and the very useful looking documents from ragboy) I have bought the Barrowmaze 1 PDF for use in my newly fledged DCC sandbox.

One annoyance though, the dungeon map in the main PDF is split across three pages which makes it hard to see and reference. I have had to buy the additional hi-res map because of this (which is excellent though). I do think that the hi-res map should have been included in the basic PDF as it is essential in my opinion.

Any tips or experiences on running this megadungeon will be gratefully received as well.

Thanks again for the heads up .. it's a nice looking product .. anyone know about Barrowmaze 2 ?

Both BMI and BMII are great, as are both volumes of Patrick Wetmore's Anomalous Subsurface Environment (especially if you nab a bunch of the cool extra materials posted on the Dungeon of Signs blog). ASE really has the weird and gonzo elements in spades.

That is getting pretty expensive for PDFs, given that even the map is $20. I'd love to buy Barrowmaze if it cost about half.

Yeah. That's why I went ahead and got the books. Plus, I like books. It's old school.

2 expands the barrow field significantly (out to 50 total barrows between I and II). The Barrowmaze is expanded out to 376 total rooms. There's a complete map in this one (comprising I and II).

Other than that, lots and lots of random tables of exquisite goodness. I haven't read this one all the way through, but it looks just as good if not better than I. Such that I haven't felt bad about the price tag on the PDF, and will likely get both hardcovers for my bookshelf.

Got my hardbacks today. They are very similar in size and quality to the recent reprint of Dungeon Alphabet (non-limited edition one), although Dungeon Alphabet is slightly better quality. The vibe from the dungeon is pure awesome, though. I'm going to ask my players if they want to start over, playtest my reusable module idea, and then jump into Barrowmaze. I think it would fit with our erratic schedule a bit better to have something that you can go into and leave relatively easily.

Also, caveat emptor, the map split part is kind of lame. Would have been cooler if they'd been printed as endpapers maybe?? Kind of a pain to flip to where they are just to see room numbers. Or, at least, give a download link for a free copy of the maps if you buy the physical thing.

I just made my own composite map. Wasn't that hard.
