Funnel Adventure - Storming Frankenstein's Castle - ideas?
No, I haven't written it yet, but I will do if needs must. Given that there is no point producing inferior versions of the work of my betters, does anyone know of an Old School adventure that would be suitable as 'funnel' - in which the 0-level PCs are a lynch mob storming the castle of the mad scientist/sorceror (a techno-wizard?). I have run Tower of the Stargazer (it really is great), and while I like it, I was thinking of something perhaps a little more action-packed and fighty. You know, something that could kill off roughly 3/4 of a mob?

Traps actually do a much better job of killing off people, in my experience, than tactical "fighty" combat. Wouldn't Ye Olde Frankenstein Herr Doktor be more apt to using traps against the peasants? And then unleash the monster at the end.
Electrical traps, in particular, would be good, like the Tower of the Stargazer thing, and tie into the Frankenstein bit. But, acids or explosives, napalm, noxious chemicals, those sorts of things would work well, too. If you really want to throw them for a loop, put a 9-digit number pad in front of a locked steel door.

Oh, yes, traps aplenty. I just meant more fighty than Tower of the Stargazer (which I think is very good, and the closest thing that I can think of, at the moment), not more fighty than Keep on the Borderlands
And maybe a little more B-movie in tone.

Big Trouble in Little China might be a good reference point, then.
