I'm thinking of using the 4 core DCC classes (and combat and character creation rules), and allowing players to choose 3.x races. I'm a bit concerned about the possible 20 ability score, and wonder what else I might be overlooking.
Let me know how good/bad you think it might work, and workarounds?
thanks
DCC classes, 3.x races. Opinions?

I would use the DCC racial abilities, but only those, that seem to be clearly racial bonuses. Eg. my dwarves would be slow, have infravision, notice strange constructions, smell gold, but won't get sword and board or the luck bonus. If you really want to use the 3e races, than I recommend either leaving out the modifiers or changing them to +1 and -1, plus giving some advantage to humans, since their free feat is useless unless you use feats in DCC RPG.

Trying new things like that is a crap shot that could go either way. I say try it out and let us know how it turns out. Groups vary so much that what is good for one, sucks for the other.

I figured that using the DCC racial abilities would make non-human characters overpowered, as a Dwarven Warrior, for example, would be 2 classes added into one. Thinking of using some off-the-wall races as well as the standard 3.

This is why I said, that you have to seperate the "racial" and "class" abilities of racial classes, as a first step.Guang wrote:I figured that using the DCC racial abilities would make non-human characters overpowered, as a Dwarven Warrior, for example, would be 2 classes added into one. What do 0 level dwarfs get? Once you are fully comfy with that let them pick a class at first level like everyone else.
