My group has been playing D&D together for about 15 years now. We usually play GM made adventures in custom backgrounds these days due to a general dislike of published settings and modules we've picked up over the years. After reading a description of the DCC series I thought it could be fun to try them and pitched it to my players. They all liked the sound of it, viewing it as getting back to our roots :)
So, I bought Idylls of the Rat King and Lost Vault of Tsathzar Rho, read through them and figured out to integrate them with our primary custum background without any difficulty. Not being sure which one I wanted to run (rat king is very well organized and written, while Tsathzar has some rather interesting ideas and encounters) I dropped a few rumors on my PCs and let them decide. I think one of the false rumors kind of scared them away from silverton and thus Rat King, so we started Lost Vault. I think this will work out for the best since Rat King looks to be a little easier to modify to make it suitable for slightly higher levels.
Anyhow, we played one session so far, only managing to complete the first level and I have to say...
the whole thing was great. I had no clue how the PCs were going to deal with Logbrag, but they managed (some rope to trip him, set up while they were talking to him and two clerics working the fighter). After that they very cautiously advanced into the caves and were keeping it together quite well until the dwarven thief opened the chest and got jumped by the animated dolls. That had the whole party laughing to the point of tears, at least until the dolls finished working over the dwarf and moved on to the rest of the party. I'd actually thought that the dolls were too easy when I first looked at them, but forgot to take into account how little damage first level pcs do, especially in confined spaces. Combined with the hardness 5 of the dolls it was a great fight (grappling won the day in the end).
All in all, a very good module. I look forward running through the rest of them (I'm just trying to figure out how to actually integrate them all into one campaign. We may have to skip one or two I'm afraid, but no big deal). Now I just need to convince the other GM in our group to run some of them so I can try playing them :)

DCC campaign

I'll gladly plug DCC 14: Interludes, which I just happened to write
. What a coincidence!! It's set up to be a series of "one shot" or shorter adventures that can be sprinkled in between all your current campaign adventuring, but still has an overarching storyline to help weave all these scenarios together.
I'm quite pleased with how it turned out, and the people who playtested it really enjoyed themselves. If you're starting out at lower levels, this might help provide six interwoven scenarios you can "seed" into your existing campaign!
