So I was thinking of what type of game I am going to run with DCC and something came to mind that I always wanted to run but never did. A Pirate or at least Nautical campaign.

Does DCC come with any Nautical rules or advice? How do you guys see that theme fitting in with swords and sorcery type play?

Are any of the third party guys working on something along these lines?

I think Belit, Queen of the Black Coast, and her corsairs, would heartily agree.

I ran a Pirates of the Caribbean game (not with DCC, but with C&C) a few years ago. What I did was to keep things mysterious. Strange fogs on the water. Having to deal with demons who would cast spells instead of casting them yourself. Voodoo type magic found around, with curses and witchdoctors and dolls with pins in them. That kind of thing.

I used the board from the old Avalon Hill wargame "Blackbeard" for my map of the Caribbean, but any google search should come up with a map you could use.

For ship combat I made use of 7th Sea's system. (The roll & keep version, not the d20 one.)

I'd have to see if I have any additonal notes. I'd love to see a 3PP group develop a nautical module for DCC.

Sneaky. That's a great idea.

7th Sea is really a neat little game system (the R&K one moreso than the d20 one) and the basic mechanic worked for both characters and for ships. It was easy enough just to use the ship rules and import them into my C&C game. Should be just as easy for DCC....

Yeah I played a stupid amount of L5R back in the day. Always love me some roll & keep.

I owned a copy of the L5R rules (R&K version) and for some reason it never grabbed me like I thought it would. 7S has pirates and somehow that seemed a lot more cool than samurai to my group. Part of it might be that my group is half female, and the girls seem to love cinmmatic rougish pirates. I suspect it's the "Orlando Bloom-Johnny Depp" factor at work.
