Pre-order special deals??
Will there be any special deals offered?
The book & dice, or the book and a few adventures? Something like that.

Re: Pre-order special deals??
If I recall correctly, when Joseph announced the release date had moved to February he also mentioned a higher page count and a slightly higher price. But pre-orders at the lower price get the book at the pre-order price, and that's the only deal I know of offhand that has been announced. I haven't checked recently, but you might see if the preorder is still at the lower price.
EDIT: In checking the Goodman Games site, I see that the preorder price is now the new one that Joseph quoted, so the super-early discount is closed.

Re: Pre-order special deals??
I just checked here:
http://www.goodman-games.com/store-dcc.html
and it quotes $39.99 as the price.
Joseph: The link above also still says a November release rather than a February one. You might want to fix that!

Re: Pre-order special deals??
Good catch on the release date; thanks; I will get that fixed. As for pre-order deals, yes, there will be one. I'm waiting until I have the manuscript in the editing phase and am really able to focus on the production stages. Then the pre-order offer will be announced. There will definitely be a drawing for original art for DCC RPG images by classic D&D artists - a random drawing to determine which pre-orders receive such a art with their order. Of course there will only be a handful of winners in such a drawing (there's only so much original art) so I may also do some other freebie or something...not sure yet. But whatever it is, existing pre-orders will be "grandfathered" in...

Re: Pre-order special deals??
Agreed. The tricky thing is for folks who have already pre-ordered. We'll be bummed if a later deal pops up that's too much better than what we got. (I'd love a boxed set with book, dice, GM screen, and modules. That would be neat!)Geoffrey wrote:The book with a full set of dice would be especially cool.

No worries on that front. Per the boss:finarvyn wrote:The tricky thing is for folks who have already pre-ordered. We'll be bummed if a later deal pops up that's too much better than what we got.

With all the new content we are creating in response to forum requests, there is a strong argument for pre-ordering if only to lock in the price.

I caught that, but I wasn't sure what happens if offers expand beyond just a simple rulebook. If the boss decides to offer a book+dice deal, for example, is it as simple as paying the difference?Harley Stroh wrote:No worries on that front. Re: Pre-order special deals??
I would love to do some sort of boxed set -- someday. For the time being, DCC RPG will release as a hardback book. No boxed set in the initial release. Boxed sets for mass release require overseas production, which adds several months to the lead time. Plus there are other complexities to consider. For now, It's just a core book. Any sort of preorder offer will be related to something with that specific book. And keep in mind I always try to create preorder offers that retailers can also offer -- whatever the final deal is it, it will come with a printable form that can also be used at your local brick-and-mortar retailer. A lot of the DCC RPG playtests happened in back rooms at game stores -- we've got to pay them back! (Thank you Game Towne, Games Plus, DiceHead, Dicehouse, Comic World, Amazing Wonders, FCB, etc.)

Re: Pre-order special deals??
Maybe there would be an option someday to buy just a box.
Sounds strange, but Troll Lord Games did this with C&C. They created a box large enough to hold the PH, CKG and M&T and you can buy either a super-duper set with all three books and the box or you can just buy the box. (That's for folks who already own the books.)

If the price keeps going up, I think it will lose sales. Honestly, I probably wouldnt pay $50+ for it. $40 seems like a reasonable price for a hardcover book of this size. I think its a mistake if it keeps getting bigger and more expensive.
If the price jumps to $50, then add dice, then add an adventure- you are talking $75+. A nice chunk of change for most.

I'm still hoping for a somewhat thin book when it's all done, but seems like we're creeping in the other direction. It's nice that it will be self-contained and complete, but my original hope was more of a B/X D&D type thickness, under 100-150 pages or so. Clearly that ship has sailed....Blood Axe wrote:I think its a mistake if it keeps getting bigger and more expensive.

Oh, no argument about the quality of the content! The size is just not consistent with my original concept of what DCC would be, that's all. Somehow I had this thin tome in mind with very minimal rules. We end up with something similar, but not quite so thin since spells take up so much space. But this is old territory. I'm not really trying to open up that particular can o' worms....Harley Stroh wrote:Yeah ... I doubt it will get more expensive, but it is slowly getting larger.
