 Dang, and the rest of us have to wait in line and hope they have some left. Way to go, James!

I am very interested in examining the 5th level adventure. That level will work perfectly with my friends characters who are going through the DCCs.

Boy has this whole wait been enjoyable with all the curiosity and wonder at what the product will be.

I'm also having a good time with this whole process. 8)

I think it's going to be an awsome product but not everyone will fall in love with it. The thing I really worry about is that some folks may see the final product and think "What the heck? I told them exactly what to do and they didn't use my ideas." That's the downside of encouraging a "brainstorming by committee" forum, since not all of our suggestions will fit with Joseph's vision of the game.

Finarvyn, don't worry about it. I think you are correct, there will be that reaction, perhaps among some of the currently posting. I recall several folks over on Troll Lord's forums becoming so upset that Castles & Crusades wasn't what they envisioned that they left. It will most likely come to pass here as well. It is impossible to please everyone and I sincerely hope Goodman & co. will not try to. Such a product would be watered-down and bland.

For me, regardless of if DCC RPG does not become a contender with C&C, I'm still going to enjoy the fruits of this company. I've got over fifty DCC modules most of which have yet to be adventured through. Many, many years of fun await!

Shane Mangus has a copy too
Looking over the adventures, there are two contained within the adventure starter: The Portal Under the Stars (Level 0-1), by Joseph Goodman and The Infernal Crucible of Sezrekan the Mad (Level 5), by Harley Stroh.

There are a few things I've said that are absolutely perfect, and if they don't get used I will be extremely unhappy: "the", "and", "because", "if", "defenestration" -- the list goes on...

As long as those are in there, I'll be pleased.

I am sorry to report that "defenestration" does not appear in the Free RPG Day release. But we did manage to work in "pandect" and "celerity". :)

This brings back memories of reading Jack Vance - I had his book in one hand and the dictionary in the other...

Yeah, what we really need is an "annotated Jack Vance" where the tricky words are defined in the margins.

I know when I read DYING EARTH my brain starts to turn to jelly at times. In fact, that was my biggest problem with the Dying Earth RPG. :(

I'll have my celerity with peanut butter, rather than cream cheese, please.

I had the good fortune of playing Dying Earth RPG with a couple of wordniks. They chewed the scenery with their flowery prose while I mostly acted like a grunt.

Vance, Peake's Gormenghast and Russel's History of Western Philosophy all have a special dictionary co-requisite in my life.

I think I wouldn't have enjoyed the game as much if cast into that role. :(

When I first bought a copy of the Dying Earth RPG it was with my sister in mind, since she loves the idea of turning a good phrase when she writes gaming logs and such, but the problem I would have had is that the rest of my group prefers not to think so hard when they play. (And, as I noted, I don't like to think that hard when I read a RPG.)

I kept the book unplayed for several years, then eventually sold it. I sometimes see a copy in a local game store and think about re-acquiring it (along with copies of the Excellent Prismatic Spray magazine) but I know it would never fit my style. Makes me sad, though.
