Little DCC play test with my boys

Post by Coleston the Cavalier »

I took my three boys (ages 11, 9 & 7) through as much of the play test of "People of the Pit" as Joseph took us through at Gary Con.

The fighters loved rolling two dice!

When I described the faceless priests to them my seven year old put a scared look on his face and then said, "Dad! Are you trying to scare me?" Of course I answered, "Yes."

Later when they killed one of the faceless priests and a multi-legged thing came out, he nearly screamed! So I had it run down into the pit. I don't want him sleeping in my bed tonight. :)

Not a huge play test, but I think you guys got the atmosphere of Appendix N down right!

That's awesome! Thanks for letting us know. If the atmosphere can come through even to kids, then that's "mission accomplished" in my book.

I think that is awesome! I was just 5 when my older brothers and I started playing D&D in '77.

Occasionally something from an adventure would creep me out a little and I remember turning on hallway lights that I'd have left off normally.

There is nothing like your first games where every room held something new and exciting you'd never encountered before.

Good times!

Great stuff!

But weren't we supposed to keep DCC RPG to ourselves? I thought there was a 'no new market segments' statement somewhere...

Don't worry! Coleston's kids are experts at D&D. It's in their DNA. :)

I ran a DCC playtest at a friend's house the other day, just to give the gang a feel for how the system works, and my friend's son (perhaps 7) sat there mesmerized watching us and then started asking questions. After the game, my sister commented that Andrew would be demanding to join the group really soon...

Something about adults sitting around the table munching on chips and rolling dice ... attracts kids like a moth to flame! 8)
