The Other Side of the Door

The door swings open onto the scene from a National Geographic doctor's opperation. It should be a maze of pipes, gears and steam. Giant pistons should be hissing. Metal should shriek under stress. The whole mess should be dipping with oil and water.

The giganatic... ...collosal... heart beating there before you doesn't belong. It is a green abomination... ...a new life? Veins, arteries and muscles are growing. They are spreading through Neddirpik like an unborn bird grows into the confines of it's egg. It is not exactly blood, green but thick, which courses through its veins but it is not exactly and ooze either. Not anymore. This is a metamorphosis.

Yup. You should have been killed. Some of the terrible monstrosities that plagued Neddirpik should have picked you off like flies, litterally. But there are gone, transformed. You can see them now. They are... ...part of the machine now. Goy is one with his followers. Some of them are becoming muscles, others veins, ligaments, new bones even. It is a grisley scene, yet there is an order and beauty to the madness.

Gifts Ungiven
Robert remembers, but does not entirely, remember the ruby red crystal blades on his buzz saw. There was a place you did not stop. Did not leave Hemisphere where you found an explosed vein of ore, dug up by lunar rain. You did not crack it open and fine a geode of the deep crystal. Yet, the remaineder of the geode remains abord Hemisphere.

The door swings open. Glod stands looking. Steam hisses off the end of his steam generator. Thump-Thump goes the heart.

Raptor he asks the others "every one ready?".

Namfoodle pushes his sleeves back. "Oh, certainly."

Still sure about that? Thump, thump.

"let me finnish off here and I'll be with you." Says Connaught.

Thump-thump. Something is distracting him.

Thump-thump.

Namfoodle's cheerful response dies in his throat as he lays eyes on the pulsating mass that lies throught he now open door.

"Gods protect us, what in highpoint is that?!" he squaks out, taking a step back from the door. He takes only one step, however, before his resolve firms and he mentally prepares himself to confront this horror.

Glod starts planning out how he could reconfigure his force generator to trap the pulsating mass in a force bubble

Destiny of Steam and Steel
The Heart

It would be difficult to encapsulate the heart in a force bubble. The heart is the size of a small house and there are many veins, arteries and even metalwork comming off it.

"Gods protect us, what in highpoint is that?!" he squeaks out, taking a step back from the door. He takes only one step, however, before his resolve firms and he mentally prepares himself to confront this horror.

Robert charges forward, channeling power into the deep crystal of his Buzzaxe (spending 2 PP & focus), he takes a mighty 2- handed swing at the "heart".

Attack roll: 20(woohoo!)+2[charging]+1[offensive precog]+10[to hit mods]-4[power attack]=29
Confirm crit roll: 13+9[see above]=22
Damage:7+5[2d8rolls]+7[Str]+8[power attack]+10[2d6 psionic weapon feat]+7[2d6 deep crystal]=44 damage If Crit confirms +54=98 damage.

Round 1
Connaught opens fire with both barrels of his steam gun.

Att 13 + 8 - 2 = 19 / 12 + 8 - 2 = 18
dmg 8 / 4

And then moves to wards a flanking position with Robert. Shouts " Robert, use the bomb!"

Subsequent rounds
Connaught attacks from a flanking position with his rapier.

Att 1 20 + 10 = 30 (+2 if flanking) dmg 6 + 2 = 8
critical role 10 + 10 = 20 (+2 if flanking) dmg 6 + 3 + 4 = 13 if critical

Att 2 14 + 10 = 24 (+2 if flanking) dmg 3 + 2 = 5

Att 3 19 + 10 = 29 (+2 if flanking) dmg 2 + 2 = 4
critical role 19 + 10 = 29 (+2 if flanking) dmg 2 + 4 + 4 = 10 if critical

Destiny of Steam and Steel
Death

Music

Red crystals roar around in a circle. They bite and chew. They tear through muscle and pull up strands of green flesh. The blade stops for a moment before Robert pulls. He yanks and hurls himself back, pulling the blade out. It revs up again. It digs and cuts.

There is an explosion, a shout of steam pouring into the c
hamber. The spell of burnt flesh and a green mist fills the air. Suddenly the heart is punctured and great goutes of green blood errupt out. The command deck is washed in green blood. Then it just dripples down like raw meat.

Every few seconds the heat fights for survival. It takes a tremendous beat and ooze jets out again. The arteries start to narrow, empty, dying. The great beast struggles against the terrible injuries.

The rapier darts in an out. Poking. Seeking. Testing. Asking for death. The saw speaks, screams and cuts. At some point it becomes like working on water. You cut and cut and it just flows out down, pouring into the bowels of Neddirpik.

You must stop.

Cut. Slash. Stab. Poke. Growl goes the red crystals. Slash goes the rapier. Green, on green, on green. Things vanish in the smoke, the mist and the heat of blood.

Please...

It is too late for that. A great tear in the hear floods open. It ripples as the blood showers out. Then the heart is only pumping air. There is a heavy smell of oil and burnt milk.

Die. Die with me.

There is a groan. It is the sound of broken and spent muscle moving. Neddirpik begins to shudder, to move. You're only a mile up. If it topples over the fall would only kill you and reduce you to paste. No worries - right?

The little clockwork puppet chugs out a blast of steam, clearing its slime clogged pipes. It struggles through the foot deep mire of green on the command deck to a control chair and sits down with a splatter of guck. He pulls on the controls and turns gears. It looks like he might be trying to lock down Neddirpik's joints. Of course it's just a clockwork puppet, it isn't strong enough to pull the brakes all the way....

The horrizon outside the green tinted window begins to wobble as Neddirpik moves, trying to fall, trying to die. Incidently it is aimed at Hemisphere, but the smaller dragonmech will probably get out of the way in time. You have perhaps a minute before things get really bad. It's a big slow machine all greased with slime.

Goy struggles, dying.

Hate!

Music

Things could be over here very soon. It's too bad you're all completely soaked in that slime - you know - the stuff that turned hammer into a mostly mindless ooze zombie. You might just save the day, if Neddirpik doesn't topple over onto the people hiding in its shadow.

But really did you do the right thing? Okay yeah. Goy was big and living but boy was he evil. It's just, you can fall to your death or wonder about your quality of life after taking such a nice green bath. Was it worth it? Well maybe just worry about the falling right now.

Namfoodle is pinned where he stands by indecision. He watches in horror as the beating heart is torn asunder by his companions and the green slime/blood spurts out and covers the floor. He looks around, wondering what he can do to help.

The floor lurches as the giant city mech begins to shift, perhaps to topple, and a look of horror crosses his face as he catches himself.

A moment of clarity takes hold of the little gnome, as he tries to make sense of everything his senses are telling him.

"Hey, what's that puppet doing with the controls?"

{OOC: should I be making some sort of check to figure out that Namfoodle ought to help the little guy lock the limbs, or should I just assume he knows what's going on? assuming no check is nessesary, Namfoodle rushes to help the clockwork puppet pull the levers.}

--edit--

{in that case...}

Namfoodle rushes over to help the little puppet pull the levers freeze the legs.

Connaught runs to help at the controls.

he tries to assist, if the controls don't respond he tries to bypass them or find another way to stop Neddirpiks fall (patch work repairs).)

Mech pilot check 18+16 = 34
Mech craft check 15+8 = 23
Knowledge mech check 12+6 = 18

If it's just a matter of brute force they he assists, using his crow bar for extra leverage.

Strenght check 20+2+1 = 23

Destiny of Steam and Steel
Halt

Neddirpik slowly comes to a halt. Metal grinds and wines and complains but stops moving. The great shadow is cast upon it's former inhabitants who are starting to realize what almost happened. Time stands still.

It's over.

Goy shudders in his death throws, simply not able to control Neddirpik anymore. The giant machine is a mess. The salvage will take weeks.

Sitting in the command center it gets very quiet.
