With a dull roar, the entire 10' x 10' section of wall recedes about 12", and then slides left into a deep groove on the side wall, revealing a hidden 10' passageway leading to a 20' by 30' room beyond.

OOC: OK. That was far less disastrous than I thought it would be.

Honest John: "Well, we didn't move this thing for nothing. Let's see if there's anything interesting in here."
Red Robert: "A room full of heavily armed murderous animated skeletons is interesting. Let's see if there's anything valuable in there!"

Ragged Rob: "Yes. Let's investigate. I will guard our rear."
Jester Jenkins: "Onward!"
Joseph: ". . ."

Max clutches his new sword sweatily and advances slowly. Xim follows behind, eyes alert for skeletons, or dragons.

OOC: Is there a way to create spoilers/nested replies? It would be convenient to be able to store the character info in the posts for easy recall, but I don't see an easy way to do it.

OOC: Assuming Same Marching Order: Marvin & Xim, Copromancer & Jenkins, Honest John & Joseph, Red Robert & Ragged Rob

As Marvin & Xim stride forward into the 10' passageway/foyer leading into the room, they see some dark figures standing at the rear of the chamber... but before their eyes adjust to the light, there is an audible *crack* and the floor beneath the two of them suddenly drops away!

Each of you please give me a Reflex save, and if you DON'T get a 15 or above, give me another Reflex save...

Marvin and Xim, separated by social strata outside of this place, unite in a common squeak as the floor gives way.

OOC: Both fail the first roll (Marvin got a 9, Xim got a 1). Their second rolls: Marvin 14, Xim 13.

Ok, after desperately trying to stop their fall into the 10' pit, and failing, both Marvin and Xim manage to land well at the bottom on their feet and absorb much of the impact by rolling into the fall.

Fortunately, there are no spikes at the bottom! But each still takes a jolt: 1 hp of damage each.

Xim yells from beneath Marvin, "Get off me, you lout!" The two stand up, brush themselves off, and look wistfully at the top what they now know is a pit. Marvin calls up nervously, "Anyone up there able to lower a rope?" He looks anxiously about him, expecting fangs to go for his throat at any second.

Only the first two characters were standing over the pit, so no need for the others to roll.

What the other characters see now, besides Marvin and Xim brushing themselves off at the bottom of the 10' pit, is the below coming toward them from the room beyond.

FYI, the pit didn't take up the full 10' square of the floor, only most of it... so there is about a 1' ledge on each side that you can attempt to cross to get into the room (or for someone to get out of it) if you so choose.

All: Please roll for initiative.

Marvin hollers up, seeing the others begin to prepare to meet some unidentified enemy. "Wait, what is it? Darn it, what's coming?" Marvin screams. "Urg!" contributes an obviously-agitated Xim.

OOC: Marvin rolls an initiative of 1, Xim rolls an 18.
OOC EDIT: Oh, right, group initiative. My bad; mine got a 1 then.

OOC: Also, Honest John shoots his sling at the robed figure, to hit 15, damage 3. Red Robert fires his short bow at the same figure, to hit 20 (not natural), damage 5.

[OOC: Initiative 18]

Ragged Rob lets a stone fly from his sling at the robed figure. Jester Jenkins and Joseph start edging their way around the pit.
[RR to hit: 11+1=12, damage: 2]

OOC: Initiative order

doddwaco: 18
Bad Guys: 17
Max: 11
Chthonicthul: 1

Ragged Rob, acting quickly, lets a stone fly at the evil priest and it caroms off of his shoulder, forcing him back a step. Jenkins and Joseph need to roll an AGL check (DC 5) to see if they make it across the pit edge without slipping (If they don't make the check, give me the same two DC 15 reflex saves).

With a terrible howl, the evil priest recovers and utters arcane words in a forgotten tongue. A sickly purple beam fires out of his hand straight at Ragged Rob. Give me a Will save, Ragged Rob.

The two skeleton warriors advance to engage Jenkins and Joseph as they make it past the pit.

[OOC-Jester Jenkins Agility: 9; Joseph Ability: 7; Ragged Rob Will Save: 7]

Surprised to make it across the pit unscathed, Jester Jenkins and Joseph charge the skeletons!

Sadly, the purple beam hits Ragged Rob squarely in the chest. He is thrown backwards out of the room, tumbling like a rag doll, dead even before he hits the ground. He comes to rest in an unnatural position back in the corridor.

Jenkins and Joseph, to hit, damage on the skeletons? If you truly want to "charge" (as opposed to a figure of speech), you can add +2 to your to hit rolls but take -2 off of your AC on your next turn.

Back in the pit, Xim whispers to Marvin, "Help me up. I'll come back for you!" He scrambles up on Marvin's shoulders and tries to reach the side of the pit or find something to pull himself up with.

OOC: Not sure what roll you'd like. Here is an unadorned d20 roll to speed the process along - apply this to a roll if relevant: 9

Jester Jenkins smokes one of the skeleton warriors!

Honest John bashes the evil priest in the face with a sling stone, and Red Robert's arrow catches him in the throat... he's down!
Chthonicthul wrote:Back in the pit, Xim whispers to Marvin, "Help me up. I'll come back for you!" He scrambles up on Marvin's shoulders and tries to reach the side of the pit or find something to pull himself up with.
Xim finds nothing to grab on to to climb out of the pit unassisted... or untossed.

doddwaco, top of the order... you're up again.

[Jester Jenkins-To hit: 19+1=20! Damage 1+1=2]
[Joseph-To hit: 11; Damage 3]

Jenkins and Joseph close on the final skeleton, attempting to trap the thing between them. Jenkins attacks with his bronze blade, and Joseph swings his staff.

The other skeleton warrior falls. You scan the room for other threats, but see none.

OOC: [Please again examine drawing of the room posted above, reading the further description below.]

Every wall in this room is covered with religious murals of a golden-headed being and his white-robed followers. It is quite obvious that this is a small shrine dedicated to that radiant being, although it has been long desecrated.

A large polished brown disk is inlaid in the north wall. Nearby on the floor lies another skeleton, although this one doesn't appear to be animated. It still wears a golden necklace with a polished bronze medallion, golden chain mail and a woven gold ring!

Marvin and Xim, who entirely miss the battle, hop up and down trying to see what might be taking place. "Is anyone alive up there?" Marvin stage whispers. "Bilford Bogin! The others are dead! We're surely next. Xim, I want you to know how much of an honor it has been to adventure with you." Xim tears up, and pees quietly in his trousers.
