Throm senses something is wrong and turns around to see Rob is dead. "What the?"

Rob rolled a 9 even taking one from Luck it's a 10. He also only had 1 HP.

Actually, when Throm turns around, he sees a portal choked with fallen rubble behind him. Bran appears as though by magic a second later. Rob does not appear. Horris may appear or not.

For those within the tower, Rob is knocked back from the portal as though by a strong blow. Dead, he continues to burn. But a set of Black Sabbath albums in his possession do not. Doctor Chapman looks down at the smouldering corpse, and shakes his head sadly. "As I said, I detest thieves and liars. Three times I warned him, and three times he did not return that which he had stolen."

Those still in the tower can choose to take the portal or not.

Foxfire reaches down to take the records and return them to their original place, then pauses "I better not...metal" Renlo will put them back on the shelf.

Bryce will take Rob's lantern and locket. "If you don't mind, m'lord.. He has no more use for them..."

Cedric looks, somewhat concerned, at Foxfire. "She read from your book, Doctor... Is that a problem, or is she allowed to leave?"

Balin, Tarpy and Rafo start yelling for the others. "Were did you all go? We are in the courtyard. Can you hear us?"

Fine then....

Horris looks in horror as Rob is dead and burns. He is mad that the others took his stuff as he was Rob's friend and not those vultures. "I was his friend and I forgot he took those sabbath disk like things. A shame those that did not know him robbed his corpse."

If Bran and Throm can hear the others in the courtyard....

Throm "Who is that out there? We were in the tower. It was sealed off by magic once we entered."

Foxfire reaches down to take the records and return them to their original place, then pauses "I better not...metal" Renlo will put them back on the shelf.

Bryce will take Rob's lantern and locket. "If you don't mind, m'lord.. He has no more use for them..."

Cedric looks, somewhat concerned, at Foxfire. "She read from your book, Doctor... Is that a problem, or is she allowed to leave?"

"I thank you for your honesty," Doctor Chapman replies. He turns to Foxfire. "At times knowledge is free, my dear, and this is one such time. You may pass without fear. Yet, there may come some future time when we can be of greater aid to each other, and I hope very much that you will remember my humble self." Turning to Bryce, Doctor Chapman says, "Do what you will with what your friend possessed. And now," he adds, again encompassing all present, "the strain of keeping my poor deceased state at bay has taken its toll, and I fear that I must now look frightful indeed. Farewell, fair friends, and good luck!"

With that, he fades from view.

Without the tower, in the courtyard, the place where Throm and Bran have appeared is opposite the courtyard to where Balin, Tarpy, and Rafo have entered the chapel. They cannot hear, or be heard from, within the tower.

Their host having vanished, Foxfire, Bryce, Cedric and Renlo go through the door.

Horris provided I read the other posts correctly. will take the items Rob had and say a brief farewell prayer for the man, asking for forgiveness in his mistaken quick hands. I completely forgot he had the black sabbath records. "Doctor please forgive my once friend I fear he forgot that he had the Black Sabbath items. Thank you and I think I have returned all items that are yours. But before I depart I'll make sure real quick." he searches his person and makes sure to leave anything that was in this room that he took if he took anything I cannot remember. leaving it here before he goes to depart.

Don't sweat it. 0-levels die, so that others may level. Every time I run this, the Black Sabbath albums are what the players decide are worth taking....even thought the characters have no way of playing them! Actually, I have had parties lose more characters before breaching the walls.

As a side note, please be reminded that no NPC speaks with "the voice of the DM". NPCs may disapprove of things the judge does not; they have their own motivations.

Everyone who dealt with Doctor Chapman may have 2 XP. (For those new to the game, at 10 XP you reach Level 1.)

So does this mean everyone that dealt with the doctor has a total of 2xp or we earned another 2xp on top of the 1xp from earlier totaling 3xp?

Survivors are level 1 when they reach 10 XP....no one has done that yet.

Not hearing any replies from their call outs, Balin, Tarpy and Rafo will head over to what appears to be the stables. After examining for the door for potential dangers, Tarpy will carefully open it. "Guys, you in there?"

Balin, Tarpy and Rafo see others of their group emerge from what appears to be a ruined doorway, choked with rubble, near the doors to the stables.

After running over to greet the others, Balin, Tarpy and Rafo tell them of their horrible adventure below ground and the goddess waiting within the chapel.

"Have you seen the others?" Tarpy says with a worried look. Balin, smiling at the others and looking a bit concerned, "we need to stick together."

ooc... For Balin remembers watching creature feature movies, as a child growing up in his familie's cave, and knows what happens when people split up.

Horris speaking to Balin and the others of his party. "Well Rob died in one of the towers because he stole from a mage and some powerful magics killed him for his crime. But the others should all be here now we all left the tower. There was still another tower some of us wanted to check if you wanted to come with."

Throm & Bran are mad about the loss of Rob but understand the warnings about thieves the mage gave them. The nod when Horris talks of the other tower.

After the stories have been told, Balin says to all around, "We should be moving along now. Maybe we can meet up with the others? You said they went to the other tower. I say we all head there and try to find them before looking for the princess."

Feeling relieved that the party has grown in size, Balin, Tarpy and Rafo head toward the other tower. Looking over his shoulder, Tarpy calls out to the others. "We have been shouting out our presence, in the courtyard, for a few minutes before stumbling into your group. Did you hear our calls?" Kicking a stone across the dusty yard Rafo says, "I wonder where the others are? They must be deep within the ground not to of heard us. Hope there alright."

Throm "Well we were in one of the towers and sealed in my magic. So that would be part of the reason we did not hear you."

Bran "Yes sealed in a tower by magics and listening to a story by a mage that called himself Doctor something..."

Horris "We also did leave the tower and come out a decent distance from you and couldn't hear your shouts until you got closer."

[MrHemlocks]

"Well, we already lost two villagers looking for a princess for that sick screwball, Prince Hubert Charming!" Swinging his sword in the air Rafo shots out, "if Justica allows than Prince Hubert Charming shall feel the edge of this sword when all this is done with!"

Moving along to the other tower, Rafo, is lost in thoughts and his anger boils...

Throm, Horris & Bran make their way to the other tower to investigate with the others.

Cedric Renlo, Bryce and Foxfire come out a free moments after the others.

Considering the tower plan, Cedric shakes his head. "I want to scout out the way into the castle itself. Let's meet in the courtyard in a few minutes. You check the tower, we'll see if any of the doors up there are clear.

Cedric will then lead Fozfire, Renlo and Bryce up to the main, central double doors at the to of the stairs to have a look.

Throm "Scout all you want but I'm goin' to the other tower before enterin' that castle."
Horris "I'm affraid while I do not agree with my dwarf friend here I am going to stick with him. He has helped save my skin once already and I'd like to stay close to him for the time being."
Bran just shrugs his shoulders and says "I'm with them so don't ask me. I go where they go."

The three of them head off towards the other tower that they did not search yet.

The west tower, once opened, appears choked with rubble; it does not appear safe to enter.

The courtyard, apart from the east tower and the chapel, seems to offer three routes which remain viable - the stable, double doors which may lead to a great hall, and broad steps up to the upper courtyard. Everywhere in the courtyard are the bones of people and animals that apparently fell wherever they were standing when the curse struck the castle.

Throm "Well at least now we know. Alright Horris, Bran lets go help scout and head to the castle with the others."
Bran & Horris both nod approval and follow the dwarf to the castle with the others.
