Provided there is room Horris, Bran, Rob & Throm all attack the Imp.
Horris Init 3 hit roll 1
Bran Init 14 hit roll 3
Rob Init 15 hit roll 6
Throm Init 16 hit roll 20 for damage 2
no idea if I am doing that right or not.

Bryce and Cedric try to attack the imp with their pitchforks. Renlo attempts to hit it with his short sword, and Foxfire will attack with her staff.

Re: Prince Charming, Reanimator
@GreyWolfVT: For 0-levels, you roll initiative once for your group, using the best Initiative modifier in the group.
As the rest of the adventurers come up to help Horris, the imp cackles, "Oh, you really are the high point of the century! Hoo hoo hoo! A bunch of nin-com-poops to be sure!" While one head keeps up a string of insults, he swoops down to bite Horris again with the other two. One is a 7, the other a 20 (but not a natural 20), so Horris takes 1 point of damage.
Throm hits, but does not kill the imp. When Horris swings at the creature, his weapon comes loose in his hand, and he almost drops it. The imp howls with laughter. (Horris has a -2 to hit during the next round).

Balin, Tarpy and Rafo, feeling rested and energized start to explore the temple area for anything that could be used as a weapon. Also, they look for secret doors...besides the flat stone passage.
After searching the room each will place an ear against the wood door and listen for noises coming from behind the structure.

Re: Prince Charming, Reanimator
Init 14
Horris hit roll 5-2=3
Bran hit roll 4
Rob hit roll 15 for damage? 5
Throm hit roll 18 for damage? 4
Not sure how to know if my hit rolls actually hit the thing but only rolling damage for those that I suspect might be a hit or close to one. Also what init modifier I'm not deducting luck to add to the init. So not sure what else there is.

The imp is defeated, its insults dying on its lips as it is cut in twain,

A voice behind you says, "Bravo. But you would have done better had you not released it from the bottle."
The man standing there is tall, stoop-shouldered, wearing half-moon spectacles and yellow-white robes. He is slightly translucent.
“Good day, and welcome to my humble laboratory. I am Doctor Chapman, Court Wizard of Sefton Castle, Deceased. I should warn you I do not look upon thieves and liars kindly, but you will otherwise find me amicably disposed. Who are you, and what do you here?”

The Doctor waves his hand. "Thieves and liars I detest," he says, "but experimentation is the foundation of knowledge. Do not worry about that unfortunate creature. It can do no one any harm now. In truth, good gentles all, I know about your quest, and I know about that Prince who would have you bring the Sleeping Beauty to him. Moreover, I wish you every possible success. You are in a location now far from your own mortal lands. I can make the exit appear whenever I so wish, as I made the entrances for you to follow. I wanted the chance to observe, and to speak with you. The centuries have passed slowly, bound by this evil faerie curse."

"It is certainly no mere illusion that protects my home!" Doctor Chapman exclaims. "But, if it will put you at ease, I shall open a portal for you." He sweeps one arm, the skin blueish-white, at a wall, and a door appears. "If you wish to go, I bid you farewell, and the blessings of the gods. But I warn you again that I do not tolerate thieves and liars. If you wish to stay, there are things I would tell you, words from which you may benefit."

Re: Prince Charming, Reanimator
Throm scratches his beard deep in thought "Alright lets stay and hear you out. I'd like to hear these words of wisdom. I don't suppose you've got enough seats for the whole lot of us?"
Bran stammers a bit "Ya ya yes lets sta stay and hear the mans words."
Rob nods in agreement
Horris just stands there quite impressed with the doctors magic powers. "I don't wish to offend you so I will stay and listen. I don't intend to lie to you nor take your things."

Re: Prince Charming, Reanimator
Renlo goes over to the door, ready to leave, but pauses to hear what the wizard has to day.
Bryce says "You have some wonderful things, Doctor. I hope we didn't break them."
Foxfire asks "We appreciate any aid you can give us on our task, sir...?"
Cedric ponders a moment, then says "We are pressed into service to find this princess. Can you help us get out of here alive? I would much rather study magic than be killed by the guardians of the princess... Or, well... Live generally."

Re: Prince Charming, Reanimator
Within the chapel, the intrepid explorers search, but there are no signs of weapons here....unless one of you is brave enough to try to wrest the sword from Justicia's statue?
--
Within the (tower?), Doctor Chapman smiles at the other intrepid explorers, his skin now faintly bluish, and a small wound showing like a tumour on one side of his face. "It is the story of the Sleeping Beauty, that draws your Prince Charming. A wicked faerie cursed Beauty to die upon her 16th birthday, having pricked her finger upon a spindle. There was nothing I could do to avert the curse, but a kinder faerie ordained that she would not die exactly, but would sleep for 100 years until awakened by a prince. You, I believe, are destined to break this curse. When Beauty is awakened, so too will all who sleep within the castle be awakened."
While he speaks, you cannot help but notice that the tumour blossoms, and begins to eat the ghost's face away even as he speaks. Doctor Chapman seems unaware of it. "Your prince will, of course, seek to slay you once you have accomplished your task. But fear not! This lordling does not understand the full measure of the curse upon our Beauty, to his undoing. When you return, obey what orders you are given, and no harm shall befall you."

The search finds nothing useful, so Balin, Tarpy and Rafo listen at the lone door for any noises coming from behind it.
OOC...If no sounds are heard Balin will open the door than step off to the side while the other two stand in guard position and look, through the open door, to whatever lays ahead.

Not wanting to be rude Horris, Bran, Rob and Throm say nothing about the wound thing upon the Doctor's face. They listen intently to his telling tale and say nothing other than "Thank you for the information is there more that you might tell us about this such as the location she can be found? Is there anything else you wish to warn us about or more advice? Not that we are not appreciative of what you have said to us thus far."
Re: Prince Charming, Reanimator
Cedric listens carefully, then asks "Can we do anything for you, Doctor...? To apologize for killing your imp, or to earn your aid in our task?"

Re: Prince Charming, Reanimator
Hearing nothing beyond the door save the sharp Caw! of a crow, Balin opens the door. He is now facing the courtyard of the castle from the east, with a wide series of steps leading the the upper courtyard to his right, the overgrown gates and two towers to the left. Across the way, he can see a number of entranceways, most of which appear to be blocked by rubble....at least one set of double doors, near the southwest tower, may be passable - the doors are closed, so it is hard to tell. There is a set of double doors to the right as well, west of the steps to the upper courtyard. The entire courtyard is littered with the bones of the long dead.

Re: Prince Charming, Reanimator
Doctor Chapman smiles at Cedric, ghastly now that half his face is a ruin of decay. His skin has taken on the blue-white pallor of a corpse. "Do for me? Why, my boy, when you break the curse on this castle, so too shall you break the curse that binds me here! Think nothing of that imp, for I had merely bottled it to stop its infernal mischief, which is certainly at an end now."
He makes a wide gesture, as though to include all there.
"Gather round, for there are three gifts that I can give you. Each gift is a most precious thing, and, once given, it can be used by no other until its owner's death, and even then not by any who had a part in its owner's murder."
He produces a plain wooden holy symbol of Justicia, and hands it to Cedric, with a courtly bow. "For you, farmer of corn," he says. "And may it serve you well. It may not be given away, for it will work for no other so long as you shall live.” The symbol adds +2 to clerical spell checks three times each day.
To Horris, he hands an orange-sized golden orb. "As you already have experience with foolish choices, let this be an aid. The orb will answer a question thrice each day, so long as the answer may be yes or no." In addition, it can be used by a wizard or elf to gain a +2 bonus to a single spell check once each day.
Finally, to Bran, he hands a bronze buckler embossed with an upraised hand which can negate one critical hit against its user each day.
"These gifts are for you and no others, so long as you shall live. Remember my words, and complete your quest in good spirits! Although all of you may not survive, I wish all of you well, saving only that I despise thieves and liars, as I have told you three times now. You know now where the door is. To those of good will, it will bring you to a safe enough place, from which to continue your adventure. Fare thee well!"

As Rob passes through the portal, he instantly begins to smoulder, suffering 1 point of damage, and the portal attempts to rebuff him - it will require a Will save (DC 15) to pass. (Which means 1d20 + Prs modifier must equal 15 or higher; you may burn Luck on a 1-to-1 basis to improve this roll).

Actually, when Throm turns around, he sees a portal choked with fallen rubble behind him. Bran appears as though by magic a second later. Rob does not appear. Horris may appear or not.GreyWolfVT wrote:Throm senses something is wrong and turns around to see Rob is dead. "What the?"

For those within the tower, Rob is knocked back from the portal as though by a strong blow. Dead, he continues to burn. But a set of Black Sabbath albums in his possession do not. Doctor Chapman looks down at the smouldering corpse, and shakes his head sadly. "As I said, I detest thieves and liars. Three times I warned him, and three times he did not return that which he had stolen."
Those still in the tower can choose to take the portal or not.
