Does anybody have any generic dwarfy town/city that I can drop into a campaign with minimal tweaking? Judges Guild or similar is fine.

I don't recall running across one. It seems like all the dwarven city/fortresses are abandoned and taken over by monsters... Maybe there was a huge sub-prime mortgage scandal in ancient times that drove all the dwarves from their true homes... :|

Perhaps hilariously, that's what's happened in my game... People of the Pit has invaded the dwarf kingdom and essentially destroyed it. But about halfway through the upper level some of my players started commenting "you know, this sure don't look like a dwarven town" and I was like hmmmmmmm yeah uhhhhhhhh... so I'm looking for something to graft onto it. Any ideas?

No Illefarn available as pdf (at least not legal heh) or on eBay.

Any judges guild products that would work?

Thunderhold? There's a free version for 3e that you can download for the old Necro or Judges Guild page, but originally it was part of the City State.

Fangthane, from Fighting Fantasy. Not especially well detailed, but here's a 'map' (from: http://www.fightingfantasy.org.uk/Booko ... INDEX.html)

I can't make any sense out of those maps.

Ah, yes, the obscure follow-up by Lipps, Inc.

A classic. Was it released in late '80, or was it '81?

My first thought was Thunderhold. I don't know anything about the 3E version, but I love the one from the 1970's.

Thunderhold is a dwarven village inside castle-style walls. Below the city is Sunstone Caverns, a dungeon to explore.

One thing I like about Thunderhold is that it breaks the "Moria" model of having subterranian dwarven cities, as Thunderhold is on the surface instead of underground.

I have a Dwarven surface city named Hammerhold. It's the dwarven trading post and where everyone goes to buy dwarven goods and ore ect.. Over time its grown.

Hammerhold is laid out very lawfully in squares with large stone blocks being the primary building material. I made it so the town is VERY functional and VERY structurally sound but its obvious that the dwarves were not used to surface building. The roofs of the buildings are not slanted, they don't have gutters, there are no windows on the buildings, the streets and halls are mostly all 10 foot wide, the buildings do not have fireplaces, instead each comes equipped with a stone and metal box that coals are stored in and radiate heat throughout the building. Each house is also built to enhance noise so that dwarven voices raised in song or warnings can be heard far off. With humans and such living in the city though this has turned into a problem. Now the city is much louder than it should be.
