Familiar Questions

I'm seriously confused about how familiars are supposed to work.

How are familiars' ability scores (Strength, Agility, etc.) determined?
The only place I see any mention of them having ability scores is in the description of the demonic type.
"For example, if corruption resulted in loss of 1 point of Strength, the familiar would lose 1 Strength and the wizard would be unaffected."
And when their intelligence is mentioned.
"Are unusually intelligent for their species, typically around an Int of 5 in human terms."

Is there a base stat block I'm not seeing? Is it supposed to be the judge's best guess based on the physical form?

Also, is what is noted in parentheses on the physical form table the bonus that applies to the master or to the familiar?

Thanks!

I think stats could be generated in the same way as starting characters, adjusted as seems appropriate for the type of familiar. There are animals and near-animals in the Monster section, which could be used as the basis for a familiar sometimes, if you like.

And since the words "Master's Benefit" are in parentheses, then the bits in parentheses in the table are exactly that: what applies to the familiar's Master.

The lone surviving wizard in our campaign has an eagle...so I just wing it...
