1 Action versus 1 Round casting times questions

Brushing up on some of the spells that the party has been casting, I noticed that Charm Person and Animal Summoning are both "1 Round" casting time spells.
Let's say that on a wizard's turn they decide they want to cast Charm Person. Because it takes more than "1 Action", does this mean that they can't move their speed on the same round they start to cast this spell? They wouldn't roll for the spell until the next round on their initiative, right? If so, it wouldn't cost them an action on that second round, right? They'd still be able to move their speed and cast other spells after they rolled to cast the spell?
If all this is true, it seems that everything that happens in the interim could radically influence the outcome of the spell. Can the wizard lose the spell if they get hit while casting a 1 Round spell? If the target is no longer around, do they get to decide whether or not to cast?
Thanks for any insights,
Eric
