Higher level games

Still new to DCC (have done one adventure as a player and another as GM) so this might be a silly question, but do groups always start with a 0 level funnel and build up to the higher level games that are available (I'm thinking specifically of the Purple Planet modules or the Chained Coffin box set) or is it just as common to create a group of Level 5 characters to play some of those adventures? There seem to be a lot of Level 5 games available and I imagine it takes quite a while to get a group of characters to that point (especially given the high death toll in DCC).

Some groups just play one-shots and build characters for those, whatever level they need.

There's nothing holding anyone to always starting with a character funnel and building up from there...

Great, thanks! I'm hoping to get a regular group going and start with a funnel, but if schedules prove difficult it's good to know one-off sessions don't have to be limited to the 0 level games I can find.

They don't even have to be limited to DCC adventures. Plenty of folks have run other d20-based scenarios on the fly, using DCC rules.

[The usual conversion is two levels of other D&D-like games equal one level in DCC. So a module for 8th Level characters could be a good fit for 4th Level DCC characters.]

Thank you!
