Rival Adventuring Parties

My DCC RPG campaign is officially kicking off tomorrow night. One of the elements the players will be dealing with initially is the presence of rival adventuring parties in the immediate vicinity. I keep starting to create the classed NPCs only to kick myself because I can just treat them as 1 or 2 HD monsters. Spellcasters get spell-like special abilities. No big whoop. It only needs to take a minute or less per NPC adventurer. Yet, I keep starting to head over to Purple Sorcerer to use its PC generation app. And then I kick myself again. My brain needs to loosen up and embrace the DCC.

Back of the book gives you bunch of ready-made NPCs that could comprise many different rival parties... Pg 432.

I forgot about that. Thanks for the reminder!

Do you give NPC/villain warriors and dwarves mighty deeds of arms?

Me? No.

Classes are for PCs.

Not that I might not give NPC "fighting men" some kind of edge, but nothing as versatile as a Deed.

For me, I'll give NPCs a Deed Die if I feel like it. It depends upon how I want the NPC to be run. Nothing is sacred.

This is sort of like spells for NPCs....some get real spells with spell checks, others get abbreviated spells like the NPC examples in the rule book. Again, it depends upon how I want the NPC to be run.

Likewise, I might give an NPC discretionary Luck...and even a Luck Die, if I feel like it.

There are no hard-and-fast rules. I have also used the Purple Sorcerer tools to generate NPCs. Why not? They're simple to use and give great results.
