Finally got around to reading the review and some of the posts thereafter. Overall a pretty solid understanding of what DCC is trying to accomplish. A good review that seems to have generated some overall positive discussion on ENWorld.

Yes a good review. I think a couple of posters were being a bit more negative than was fair but nice to see it sort of balanced out. I had only just joined up at enworld so I could help with spreading good things about this game... I am finding it a bit prickly over there though. I think a few people seem to take this gaming lark a bit too seriously, especially in defence of their favoured version or game system. I might just stay on here from now on as I have found these Forums have a great atmosphere with friendly people and excellent information.

Yeah, I've decided to stay away from Enworld too. The people who visit the site are a little too rabid in their love of WotC and the moderators tolerate it. I don't know if the site was always like this, but it has turned into an extension of the WotC PR department and only gives slight nods other games once its been shown that the games are becoming popular enough that they can't ignore them any longer.

Agreed. I sometimes pop up here and there, but the Goodman Games, ODD74, Piazza and Kenzer & Co forums are where I feel home.

I think the problem frequently arises when a forum's active membership just gets too large; you often end up with a greater proportion of yahoos then because there are more posters in general, and admin is stretched thinner. Add in the impact of the mean age of a forum's membership, and you also end up with more or less problems. Older fans, f'rinstance, have had time and experience to mellow and tend to be more polite.

This. Enworld's blessing (a huge membership) is also its curse.

I appreciate everyone making respectful, well-reasoned posts. Thanks for representing us well out in the larger net.

I'll also invite folks over to rpggeek.com. Our community is smaller perhaps, but we definitely strive for a thoughtful, polite and respectful atmosphere. It also has a nice blend of storytelling, D&D inspired, other old, new and indie RPG supporters. There has been a lot of D&D Next playtest discussion there recently, but surprisingly little on DCC.

Agreed, but keep in mind that this attitude is one that has to be encouraged and embraced by the larger group. I found on OD&D Discussion that a few bad posters can impact the whole atmosphere, so you really can't let them get too far before you remind them to relax. This place is pretty good at this, and most posters seem quite respectful of each other even when they hold opposite viewpoints.

For the good of DCC, I will not go to Enworld and inform them of their corporate brownnoser status. I said it before and I will say it again, Hasbro must go!

My only question, still, is "why?"

4th edition, They should be thrown into the great pit of Carkoon for that edition!

...and the fact that they pulled the pdfs of the previuos edition adventures that I wanted. The ones I purchased from drive thru were no longer available. Screw them!

Thanks for responding Karaptis, even if I can't agree with your reasons it is nice to see that you do actually have some.

There are sometimes methods to my madness. If you like 4e then more power to you. I hated it and I hate magic cards and such. That's me, I miss the old Gary days ,heck, I miss the 70s and 80s (well early 80s). Now get off my lawn you damn kids!

It's not that I like 4e - I can't stand it - it's that I don't see how not liking 4e adds up to the feeling that a company needs to fail.

I just can't wrap my mind around being so upset about games.

Partially because they take good elements of their games and ruin them just to make a sell. This has been happening since 2nd Ed but since Hasbro acquired them it got worse. I don't like 3e but it had some good elements to it that Hasbro took and turned my favorite (well first Ed anyway) game into an MMORPG/Which Way book.

I probably don't want them to go under as a company. I know many people would loose jobs and I am sensitive to that, but I wish they would let DnD die it's overdue death since the great Mr Gygax was forced out.

How about if we discuss DCC and not spend time bashing other companies. 4E is old news and there isn't a lot to be gained in discussing it here.
