Suppose you have more than one character each surive the zero level adventure, you'll maybe choose one each to continue with -what happens to the ones left behind ?

Maybe they never adventure again and just go about their business until years later they take arms against a powerdrunk sorcerer and his cohorts. Maybe when they confront the bad guys they discover Team Evil are the characters that were picked to continue to 1st level years ago.

Keep them around when your level 1 guy buys the farm ten minutes into the first adventure.

Remember, Appendix N is mostly episodic. Stories jump from early and later in the characters' career on a whim. So just because Lucky Ed the Fishmonger didn't go off on the second adventure, does not mean he isn't available for the third.

One of my playtest teams did exactly this. It hasn't been a problem yet, but we'll see what happens if they gain too many levels without losing anyone.

My thought was that if anyone loses a character, they can take over one of the "spare" characters. The players may not go for this, however, since they seem to equate ownership with the guy who rolled the dice at 0-level.
