This game is awesome!

Post by Sizzaxe »

I've been making my way through the posts on the playtests threads and responding from time to time. I know that feedback is essential and criticisms are usually more helpful than praise, but I can't just help myself. I just wanted to take a minute before I sign off for the night to say, This Game Rawks!!

Truly, the reason I was drawn to DCC RPG was one word: flavor! flavor! flavor! Okay one word repeated three times  And not just flavor in the sense of details, and color, but flavor in terms of spirit, attitude and vision. Your stated goal of taking Appendix N and creating the game that "could have been" is a resounding success thus far. Kudos to Mr. Goodman, Mr. Stroh and the DCC design team. You've nailed it out of the gate; the art, the tone, the fire in the belly, your take on modern design, just, well, everything.

I'm still reading and laughing out loud, grinning to myself constantly, occasionally emitting maniacal-evil-genius cackles, and actually gasping audibly at the consummate old school art. Just thank you immensely for this work that is obviously a work of your hearts and souls.

I trust that the playtest recommendations are aimed at strengthening the game and the spirit it was designed to achieve; not trying to make it something it's not. But I have no fear that your team will let that happen.

Keep up the good work! Our first playtest is this Saturday!!

Good luck with the playtest on Saturday.

I think that there are a couple of layers here:

Level I. Hear about the game, read about other's experiences.

Level II. Read the game and discuss options.

Level III. Play the game.

Clearly we've been stuck in "Level I" mode here for a few months and can finally graduate to "Level II." It's important to move to "Level III" quickly, because read/discuss is somewhat useless without playing it to see how it goes. I know that some parts played very differently from the way I expected, based on only a read-through.

Have fun and report back! 8)
