PotC and DCC

With the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie coming out my group turns to the notion of playing some sort of pirate game, so it's time to dust off my old pirate campaign.

I often have struggled with how to stat out characters from the movies, and Captain Jack Sparrow has always been elusive. Sure he's charismatic, but what else? I keep trying to "square peg, round hole" him into a high dexterity character, but that doesn't seem to really fit well because he doesn't seem particularly adept, only lucky.

Then today it hit me.

Lucky!

If I run my pirate game using the DCC RPG rules, then Jack maxes out in luck! This fits his persona so much more, and its effect is already built into the rules. Jack can stay somewhat clumsy but fantastically lucky, and this would help to explain how good things somehow happen to him all of the time.

Now I need to scurry off and tweak a few things before the gang comes over! 8)

Yeah better be lucky that good! Although he is pretty good at most things too.

Advanced Fighting Fantasy 2 would cover this too, with luck as an important stat- there are only three Skill, Stamina and Luck.
