Judge or something else
i am totally into DCC except for one little thing: i am still calling myself Dungeon Master and not Judge. simply i am always like i am mastering this and that and also dungeon master has such a good ring to it. anyone else has this "problem"?

It totally depends on the conversation. But for DCC, I'm try really hard to use Judge.
Re: Judge or something else
A good Dungeon Master is the Judge of their game.

Re: Judge or something else
is there more at play than just a simple naming convention? judge is someone bound to higher law and ruling according to it while master is obviously someone who is sovereign in his will.
bear with me i am in isolation.

I'll be the judge of that!catseye yellow wrote: ↑Tue Apr 21, 2020 11:52 am ...judge is someone bound to higher law and ruling according to it...
You're the Judge, because you adjudicate how things should be done. We aren't bound by anything but our sensibility on how the game should flow. Not even the rulebook has higher authority.
It's not judge as in a court of law.

Re: Judge or something else
I like the term Judge, "because you adjudicate how things should be done." as it seems to settle my mind in middle ground between the megalomaniacal aspersions that Dungeon Master connotates with jaded players, and the perception of same of abject boredom by simply refereeing the game in a truly gamist fashion for points.

Re: Judge or something else
When I learned to game DM, or Dungeon Master was the term. Judges guild used judge, i still prefer DM or Dungeon Master. But Ref Judge GM Administrator adjunct Game Operations Director or any term if presented by polite players works with me.

Re: Judge or something else

Re: Judge or something else
Pathfinder uses Game Master or GM. my nephew plays had to find out from him.
