Yup, I booted up the emulator the other day and played the first 10 minutes of that game. You go back and forth killing that guy over and over again until you can afford Deluge, a few J-keys, and maybe a red potion.

It's funny how situational memory can be...
I couldn't tell you about when to jump the spiky-floor guys or that you had to kill them with magic before booting the game, but as soon as I saw the screen in which they appear I knew I had to jump in THAT spot and I couldn't kill them without the Deluge spell.
