DragonFiend Pact reach and AoO ?'s

I'm running DF and the PCs are 'reduced'. I'm using a regular battle map so therefore 1" = 1.25' when they are in 'reduced' state

so my question is when a PC is confronting a monster, what is the correct way to view the PC's move when thinking about AoO from the monster. the rules state a 5' move will not provoke an AoO (assuming only one monster etc) but that would equal 4 squares on my battle mat when they are 'reduced'.

should I stick with 5' is 5' (straight forward reading the rules) or consider a 1.25' move equavalent to what they perceive as a 5' move considering their new size?? and therefore any move from the PCs of more than 1 battle map square could provoke an AoO (given a monster has a 5' reach [4 battle map squares]etc etc)

I hope I'm explaining this well ?!?!?! I would imagine anyone who's played the module would understand the problem I'm describing.....thanks in advance

(I'm moving this thread to the DCC forum.) Good question. If it were me, for simplicity's sake I'd keep it at "1 square on the battlemat" rather than working out the distance ratios. That way the scale of your battlemat increases (each square is now a smaller area) but the game play mechanic basically remains identical.

so then you are confirming that with the battle mat squares representing 1.25' you would consider moving more than one battle mat square chances for an AoO (even though traditional rules state 5' NOT 1.25') for 'reduced' PCs

Don't take this as an "official" answer -- I didn't write Dragonfiend Pact, and I don't want these words to end up applying in some other situation I haven't thought of. All I'm saying is, if it were me in my game, I'd do the 1 square = AoO thing (which, in this case, translates to a 1.25' step), because it makes running the game a lot easier.

When I ran this module, I re-scaled everything. I drew my maps bigger, I made spells bigger, but I left the 5 foot step thing as 1 square only.

The best part was that I let the halfling crawl and squeeze through without taking the potion. So after everyone else shrank down the halfling was much taller. So we replaced the halflings normal figure with a large orge figure (yes I gave him reach too).

Everyone had a blast. We even had a "Dr Shrinker" sing along.
