Undermountain in Aereth?

Well, next month my favorite dungeon crawl of all time makes it to 3.5e. This gets me thinking about placing Waterdeep and Undermountain in Aereth.

One of the fun thing about UM was all the teleports and how they spurred so many adventures for other modules.

So, where in Aereth do I put UM/ Waterdeep, and what DCC modules would be fun to connect?

I answered my own question.

A careful examination of the map of the north, and some reading gave me this:

Just like in the Forgotten Realms, Aereth has a frosty north populated by many barbarian tribes called "the Frost Barrens."

There is a mountain range south of the Kingdom of Luthea called the Dunerain Mountains, populated by Dwarves and Goblins.

Just north of the Dunerain Mountains is a large forest populated by Elves called "Cairnswild."

Just east of Cairnswild is the Kindom of Luthea.

Just east of the Dunerain Mountains is the Kingdom Uther.

Going north along the western side of the Dunerain Mountains, there is a brief break in the mountain range that leads to the Cairnswild.

Thus, Waterdeep is on the Western side of the Dunerain Mountains. If you look at the upper third of the world map, along the coast line about a half inch from the bottom map edge is a little "inlet". A perfect place to put Mount Waterdeep and the Free City.

Thus, Waterdeep is the "Gateway to the North." Centuries ago, the Lords of Waterdeep negotiated with the Elves of the Cairnswild to allow a trade road to cut through the forest where the mountain breaks, that leads to the kingdom of Luthiea.

The dwarves of the Dunerain maintains a safe trade path through the mountains, thus connecting the city to the Kingdom of Uthur and all other roads east.

The natural deep water harbor allows for all kinds of shipping travel... from the Isle of Nos Caen, the Criestine Empire, and further.

Ships also come from the lands the dot the Lirean Sea, as Waterdeep provides the last "civilized" resupply point for fishing and whaling vessels sailing north.

Waterdeep ships also patrol the sea lanes, watchful of pirates and escort merchant vessels to it port.

Elves, Dwarves, and Hin from all over the lands of the North freely mingle in the "City of Splendors", as do less savory types, though most likely in disguise.

Adventureres come to Waterdeep for many reasons. A stop over point as they travel North, or to delve in the "deepest dungeon of them all": Undermountain.

The instability of the Kindom of Uthur threatens Waterdeep's autonomy as a civil war would close the trade road through the Dunerain Mountains. Thus the Lords of Waterdeep have become heavily involved in Uthur's politics, working "behind the scenes" to maintain the monarchy.

It looks like you answered your own question, with aplomb. :)

Well, now that that bit of inspiration has sprung forth, I have started really putting things together. I will post a more detailed integration shortly! :D
