Questions about DCC 27

Post by gmdave »

I have a couple of questions/problems with DCC 27 (Revenge of the Rat King). I am not sure if I am missing something or the module is. Here is my Dilemma:

*******Spoilers Below********************

During the last part of part 2 (Escape for the Rat King). The characters find and possible fight the Nameless Lord. They are in a room with all the exits except the one they entered blocked by debris. Then all of a sudden the next page is part 3 (Fall of the Rat King) which begins with..."With the escape from the dungeons of the Rat King, and the rat filled sewers the characters have come full circle...... My question is: How did they escape?? No where does it every say - This is the way out, or The characters escape this way. I was just a little confused. And in the 3rd part. How do they get back down to where the rat king is? Do they have to enter the same way they did the first time? That does not seem to make sense to me. Please help me with this!!! I am sure that some one has played or GM'd this, and I could use some of your insight.

Thanks for your help

Dave,

Sorry for the confusion.

As soon as the PCs climb down through area 2-5, they can hang a quick left and make it back to the Rat King's lair. (They climb up over the cistern to the east and go through the storeroom.)

Areas 2-6 through 2-8 are a side track intended to be perilous to the heroes. Going through these rooms is not essential to defeating the Rat King.

Going there has the potential for great rewards (mostly in the form of magic items that the PCs can use in the final battles) but there is the very real danger that one ore more PCs will die to the shadow and Lord.

Thank You Mr. Stroh for your reply. I think it is great that you would take time out to answer my question.

I do not want to seem thick, but I still do not see how they escape. If they go left from 2-5 they go to the Cistern and continue further into the Rat King's lair. If they go right it sounds like it is a dead end. the only other way out is through the clay pipe which leads into the Nameless lords lair.

I could just say they find a shaft up to the street from here, but I thought I would ask you first.

Thanks again

Dave,

Sorry for the slow reply. I've been out town the last week.

Let me check the manuscript to make sure what's what. :) I'll repost tomorrow morning.

Dave,

The exit back to street level is in the treasure room after the final battle with the Rat King. To finish the adventure as written, the PCs need to cross over the cistern and do battle with the Rat King and his minions.

(This is a major shift from the first third of the adventure, when the Rat King has pretty much set the stage for our poor heroes.)

I think the misunderstanding comes from sloppy writing on my part. You qouted a section about the "PCs escaping the Rat King's dungeon." I intended this use of the word dungeon in the prison sense --- by the time the PCs crawl free of the rat warrens, they are free. But they still have a ways to go to defeat the dungeon (in the "underground adventure" setting sense).
