Recommendation for level 6?

Post by Jive »

Hello there,

I'm looking for a fun DCC adventure for a party of 4-6 level 6 PCs. Anyone have any recommendations? I notice a number of the 6-8 adventures, such as "Curse of the Emerald Cobra" haven't been reviewed. I'm looking for something that'll run in 2-3 sessions.

My group is just coming off of WotC's Sons of Gruumsh, so I'm looking for something that feels a little different from that.

DCC #17: Legacy of the Savage Kings.

Here's my write up of my friends adventure:

And don't forget, not only does the adventure rock, but maps are available for download in the free area, under Prester's Map and Chart Emporium!

Ben "superfan" Waxman
"They Might Be Dwarves" - World Champions Xcrawl 2007. So BAD...but yet so good.

My group will be at the high end for that module (almost everyone at level 6). Do you think it would be too easy?

It won't be too easy if you jazz it up. The author has some good suggestions as to how to increase the power of the encounters.

I ran it as a Castles & Crusades adventure and that is an easy system to adjust on the fly. However, I don't think it will be a problem if you use the modules suggestions on higher level PCs.

Let's see if Harley or others more knowledgeable in d20 can give some answers.

That being said, I recommend ANY DCC of the levels hands down. Go over to the Products page and read the various modules. You'll find one that strikes you as perfect.

I would highly, highly recommend Secret of Smuggler's Cove, which is for levels 5-7. Think it would fit the bill perfectly for what you've described.

Thanks Mike, I'll definitely take that into consideration. It looks like a good module.

But I'll let you in on a secret. I've basically just been waiting for someone to recommend Curse of the Emerald Cobra, so I'd have an excuse to buy it sight unseen, knowing only that its set in a jungle and that the art on the preview page looks cool. I can see why you might not feel comfortable giving such a recommendation, but maybe you could answer one of my questions.

Are the encounters in Curse mostly against humanoid (presumably snake or lizard people)? Or are there lots of encounters against non-humanoid monsters (the art seems to indicate at least 4). My primary concern is that I just don't want it to be broadly similar to Sons of Gruumsh with serpent people instead of orcs.

Thanks to everyone with their recommendations so far!

Well, it's not broadly similar in that regard ... but I won't lie, there's a considerable number of encounters with reptilian humanoids.

Without getting too spoiler-ish, "Curse" can be broken down into three parts. The first part contains very few encounters with reptilian humanoids. The second part contains a lot of encounters with reptilian humanoids. And the third and final part has a pretty even mix of reptilian humanoids and other evil creatures.

So, should you use "Curse" as your next adventure, your players will be encountering quite a few evil serpent-like humanoids ... but by no means will that be all they are facing. I'd guess that they would make up probably half of the potential combat encounters, though.

Hope this helps with your decision!

That does help a fair amount. 50% is about what I would have expected - I just wanted to make sure it wasn't higher. Thanks!
