characters for 0 level adventures

Post by slimykuotoan »

I noticed the pre generated characters for 0 level mods are 1st level.

Anyone tried farmers, labourers and the like?

I did a campaign once that I had all the PCs start as 0 level commoners and then they pursued their PC class from there. It worked out pretty well and allowed the players to build their characters stories from scratch.

In 3.5, a "zero" level character is actually a 1st-level NPC-classed character. A level 1 commoner counts as CR 1/2, versus CR 1 for a level 1 fighter, wizard, rogue, cleric, or other normal class. Hence, the "zero" level characters actually being level 1, but from an NPC class. DCC #35 includes an entire chapter on how to run campaigns that start at "zero" level.
