Once GM, Looking to get back into it.

Post by Stakor »

Hello,

Quite some time ago, I used to GM a game or two. a while ago being 2nd Edition D&D. Never GM'ed DCC. I am still pretty new to the system, and am looking to see if I can start with a funnel one-shot at a game night locally. Does anyone have any recommendations for a funnel to start with? I know a few have been published, but was looking for a suggestion or two. As mentioned the intent would be for this to run for a few hours and then to be able to call it a night. I don't know if any of the published funnels lend themselves to something like that better than any of the others.

Any thoughts? Or, does anyone have positive (or negative) experiences that they feel like sharing?

This might be of some help, although it is far out of date.

From the Comments:

I have run the following in a four hour slot:

The Arwich Grinder (Crawl! fanzine #9)
Frozen in Time (Goodman Games)
The Hypercube of Myt (Goodman Games, Gen Con 2015 Program Guide)
Playing the Game (Purple Duck Games)
The Portal Under the Stars (Goodman Games, Core Rulebook)
Prince Charming, Reanimator (Purple Duck Games)
The Ruins of Ramat (Brave Halfling)
Sailors on the Starless Sea (Goodman Games)

If I were going to be presenting a funnel in a four-hour slot, my top picks would include:

Beyond the Silver Scream (Forrest Aguirre)
Carnival of the Damned (Purple Sorcerer Games) - you will need prep time!
Frozen in Time (Goodman Games)
Hole in the Sky, The (Goodman Games)
Nebin Pendlebrook's Perilous Pantry (Purple Sorcerer Games)
The Portal Under the Stars (Goodman Games, Core Rulebook)
Prince Charming, Reanimator (Purple Duck Games)
Sailors on the Starless Sea (Goodman Games)
Sour Spring Hollow (Goodman Games, The Chained Coffin Boxed Set)
They Served Brandolyn Red (Goodman Games)
The Tribe of Ogg and the Gift of Suss (Mystic Bull Games)

I have used italics to indicate adventures that I wrote, or, in the case of The Hypercube of Myt, co-wrote as part of a six-person team. (This to help you take my own partisan self-interest into account).
SoBH pbp:

Cathbad the Meek (herbalist Wizard 1): AC 9; 4 hp; S 7, A 7, St 10, P 17, I 13, L 8; Neutral; Club, herbs, 50' rope, 50 cp; -1 to melee attack rolls. Hideous scar.
