Re: Links to DCC RPG Resources, updated 6/12
Other than the afore-used box.net, does anyone have a hosting site to recommend...? Pros? Cons? I'm not 100% sure what my self-hosting capacity is going to be at the moment, and would like to put up a beta character sheet of my own soon... Google Docs is probably the easiest and most reliable. And ...

[Suggestion] Halflings as luck "charm"
This may have been suggested/discussed elsewhere but I'm afraid I can't find it with search. It's not a very major point, but I thought I'd share it. I've just read the section on halflings being good luck charms and that only one halfling can have this function and that it must remain as this speci...

Re: Tricks & Tips for Judges
For me, Doug Kovacs' point 3. about music was spot on. I read all of The Lord of the Rings with Mike Oldfield albums playing in the background, and so now, if I want to instantly travel back to the late 70's and early 80's or get into a heroic fantasy mood, I just need to listen to those or his late...

Re: Dice...
Treebore, this is not the most convenient, but if you happen to game with a PC or some other Internet/web browsing capacity, you could use random.org (absolutely fab site by the way).
http://www.random.org/integers/
Perhaps GG could host their own web page with a dice roller on it...

Re: Dice...
Yes, thanks for that insight Joseph. I for one, had not heard of these other dice until I started reading about the DCC RPG. Then I bought a set just out of interest without feeling the need to ever use them. And I paid a premium for them here in the UK. If anything, they're worth their price just s...

Re: Dice...
The thought has occurred to me, why doesn't some one make a d6 with 1 - 3 repeated, a d10 with the numbers 1-5 repeated and a d14 with the numbers 1-7 repeated? The last two would certainly allay some people's fear that the d5 and d7 can't roll evenly for all numbers because of the different sized/s...

Re: what you really like at first glance
I just read this on page 19;
"What man calls free will is but the options remaining after destiny and the gods have made their plays."
Well played Mr Goodman. Worthy of the Romantic poets and should be on a T-shirt!

Re: Scrap the XP table. One table to rule them all
The last time I checked the DCC RPG beta rules does have a single table to consult. It's Table 1-4 on page 19.
Next we'll have non-competitive sports days at schools...err, hang on....

Re: Scrap the XP table. One table to rule them all
My players want simplicity. They want to know without having to check a table that 3,000 is XP for 3rd level for everyone not 3rd for Warrior, 2nd for Wizards, and 4th for Rogues (examples not real). OK, I understand. They want to know the experience point thresholds in their heads without having t...

Re: Dice...
Dictatorial? Have they read Gygax? Maybe there's a couple of humorless schmoes out there who read the "thou shalts" and took it the wrong way. Interesting you should say that because someone on theRPGsite forum in fact speculated that the tone was trying to emulate Gygax or be a humerous ...

Hey, don't shoot the messenger! I like the DCC RPG so far. :D It's just the impression I'm getting from forums posts like those at theRPGsite; http://www.therpgsite.com/showthread.php?t=20241 Granted, that particular forum tends to be no-holds-barred and revels in savaging all and sundary. I also ag...

Re: Dice...
the main stated turn-offs for the game are; the dice, the 0-level character funnel, the dictatorial tone of the writing and the heavy reliance on tables. Sadly, I expect all of these will have serious impacts on sales. Is character funnel a turn off? Man, this is not a game for daisies: there's not...

Re: no magic items--shouldn't those be playtested?
Thus, magic items alone (researching their history, dungeon delving for them, etc.) will be a potent source of adventure seeds. I like it. Really, this is a low-magic fantasy system despite the proportion of the rules devoted to the mechanics of magic and spell details.

Re: Scrap the XP table. One table to rule them all
I don't see a problem with this. If you have a single experience table, as suggested, then you need to consult one table. If you use the rules as written here, you have to consult...one table! Or you saying your players are too thick to be able to identify the correct table column to consult? The di...

Re: Dice...
It's true that the use of Zocci dice will immediately cull off easily 25% of potential sales. If not more. It was a brave (fool-hardy?) choice to include them. So far, in the wild (i.e., forums like rpg.net, the rpgsite, etc.) the main stated turn-offs for the game are; the dice, the 0-level charact...

Re: the Artwork - keep it Black, White and BOLD!
Just goes to show, it's all in the eye of the beholder.
I also wonder if this is all the art that will be in the book. Remember, the text will be increasing somewhat (e.g., levels 6 - 10 info) as Joseph clearly states in the intro. That would help space out the art and not make it seem so crowded.

Re: the Artwork - keep it Black, White and BOLD!
I agree that for me B&W art is the way to go. I have commented elsewhere that I think there may be a bit too much art in the book. Also for me, I'd really like to see the attempt at humorous cartoons removed. It does nothing for me, other than to turn me off.

Re: A woodcutter could scale a wall?
Walls aren't always a completely shear plane. They can have ledges, window sills, drain pipes, chimney breasts, etc. In general, I would assume a wood cutter has the strength/stamina/dexterity/technique/experience/inclination and general head for heights that allows them to more easily climb walls.
