Re: The giant on page 45
I'm not sure a +32 is what I need. I like the idea of small nimble humans dodging the giant's massive fists and he crushes the city around him. Anyway, I remember that 3e had a chart where monsters got penalties to hit as they got a penalty to hit as they got larger and larger. I do think they shou...

Re: 0-Level PCs & Higher Level PCs
If players are able to operate a "stable" of characters, of various levels, and use different characters to face different challenges, I would consider the following: All players get to go through the new funnel; survivors become new 1st level PCs. Some of these PCs may "wait in the w...

Re: The Kickstarter madness has me thinking about dice
I do everything I can, short of giving him special treatment, to minimize the time he spends focusing on the bad die rolls and maximize the time he spends having fun playing the game That might actually reinforce the undesired behaviour. I would try: "I am sorry you are not having fun, but tha...

Re: Atributes for non-human races (?)
In summation: Halflings can be hobbits or whatever else we want them to be, and as a fictional race can either be grounded in human physical dynamics or not as preferred. The only thing that matters is that everyone is having their fun their way in their own games. Have I missed anything? ;) Colin ...

My first for-publication adventure for the system, Bone Hoard of the Dancing Horror , is currently with the editor at Purple Duck Games . I have to say that I am really excited about this, and I hope that you will enjoy playing through it as much as I enjoyed writing it. There is at least one truly...

Re: The giant on page 45
This massive creature is unlikely to attack the PCs directly, but the PCs can still be hurt by its activities. Each round the giant is active, it causes damage in one area of the city. This damage might be by throwing things, using a weapon, kicking, etc. When targeting such a large area, the giant ...

Re: Stomp the typo / Errata & FAQ
The tables on the cleric's spells offer no chance of taint, patron taint, or misfire. True, but the footnote addresses this by saying that when a wizard casts their version of the clerical spells, a natural 1 results in a 50/50 chance of major corruption or generic misfire. Colin True. (Also, d'oh!...

Re: mercurial magic
I have been considering some alterations for the mercurial magic system... I love it, but it has had some moments that made it feel a little too "heavy" in delivery... specifically when a Wizard managed to have someone he knows die every time he casts read magic, and an Elf can only invok...

I'm Daniel. I live in Toronto, but grew up in Wisconsin. I started gaming with Holmes Basic on Christmas Day 1979, and haven't been this excited about a gaming product since I was in grade/high school.

Re: Atributes for non-human races (?)
Seriously though, I can get behind a feeling that there is no way that Frodo could ever manage the strength that Gimli could, and both would likely have trouble matching Aragorn if he pushed himself to the maximum power-potential of his body... what I can't get behind is locking down every fantasy ...

page 127 table Table 5-8: Wizard Spells * As per cleric spell of same name. Because the wizard version of the spell is a different spell level, the wizard receives a -2 penalty to spell checks when casting it. For example, binding is a level 2 cleric spell but a level 3 wizard spell; therefore, whe...

Re: Adventures with Purple Duck Games
They are inspired by different Appendix N authors. You can have worse happen than death in Bone Hoard. A Cotillion is a dance, such as a formal ball. The Cotillion of Hours is one answer to "Quest For It", and I think it will be memorable. Unfortunately, as I am not the publisher, I don't ...

Re: Upcoming rulebooks?
I had initially been hot on the idea of new monsters, but as I create my own materials, the absence of a monster book has increased the range and variety of ideas I am having. Well, that and reading through Appendix N! It is pretty easy to stat anything you can conceive of in this system.

Re: Working on Gods & Powers of Shanthopal
If you go back to the Appendix N stories, there is a lot of inter-planar travel going on (including to other times). So, if something doesn't match your vision for your campaign milieu, but you still want to use it, just include a planar portal or event to get there.

Re: The Kickstarter madness has me thinking about dice
I'd go for it. It'd need: d3 (ideally d6 numbered 1-3 twice)* d4 (could be a d8 numbered 1-4 twice)* d5 (ideally d10 numbered 1-10 twice)* d6 d7 (ideally d14 numbered 1-7 twice)* d8 d10 d% d12 d14 d16 d20 d24 d30 * Using the standard dice shapes for these could potentially be cheaper and would cert...
