Re: OAR2 Isle of Dread revised
I imagine with a little work I could fix it myself. Or I could choose to spend my money on game products that are more inclusive. Hey, maybe Goodman only wants to sell the OAR line to middle aged white men, that that's fine I guess. I mean, I fit that demographic... but my players don't. I would sa...

Re: Giants in combat
Yeah... I think giant's in D&D are too cuddly, same for dragons, so yeah, dragons/giants in DCC are probably about more what it would be like. It totally makes sense that a village/town could be ruled over by a giant demanding tribute because they can just squash people. Gotta use some tactics a...

Re: OAR2 Isle of Dread revised
It's actually a really good adventure and island hex crawl. And the good thing about running games is you can change things. And its one thing to look at something yourself and think its problematic, its another to just let other people tell you what's problematic without engaging your own brain and...

Re: Mighty deed of arms and other classes
A warrior doing a trip deed would still do damage.
I think other classes trying to trip should be an opposed-strength check, and be instead of a regular attack.

Re: Wizard/Elf Wants a Lower Spell Result
Some spells specifically say that you can choose a lower result. Ekim's Mystical Mask is one example. In the "General" information it says "the wizard may choose to invoke an effect of lesser power than his spell check roll to produce a weaker but potentially more useful result" ...

Re: Megadungeons
In general I don't much like mega-dungeons as a concept. I don't think they work no matter what game system you're using. Like.. it just doesn't seem fun or engaging to have your characters trapped in a dungeon for weeks trying to work their way through. And maybe they're not trapped for a week, wha...

Re: Help Blending B/X into DCC
Still a pretty cool idea. I do like adding gold/xp into DCC, i just like.. "earning" levels, and only getting 1-4 XP per encounter makes it a slog. And getting "milestone" style level ups just feels wrong to me. So getting loot to earn more xp seems like a good addition.

Re: Q: How do you handle 0 to 1st level transition?
That's super cool! And thanks for giving the walk-through, which makes your approach practical & do-able. For the second part: by "free spells" do you mean giving the wizard the 4 spells that come at level 1? I'm thinking that having no spells at level-up could make gameplay a lot les...

Re: Q: How do you handle 0 to 1st level transition?
The battle rages on, adrenaline is pumping through the blood of these poor peasants as horrible monsters try to kill and consume them. The heavy metal riffs reverb through the air as they scream loudly, stabbing wildly with their scissors and shovels into the entrails of these creatures to ensure th...

first I decide how many HD it has, then I decide if it uses natural-style attacks or weapons, etc. Then I decide if I can give it anything special that makes it cool.

Re: Blinded or speachless
I guess I'm kinda stuck in the mindset of D&D where, some spells do require you to be able to say something out loud to cast them, so you'd be unable to cast those spells while you are muted.

Re: Identifying Magic Items
Well, "Quest for it" or.. get an eccentric witch, oracle, druid, or other magical NPC to help identify it, at a cost or favor for a favor. If you're able to cast "Detect Magic" high enough you get some idea what enchantment items might have.

Again, I don't see a problem with this. Besides, cleric's using bless chain buffs with some other spells are more OP than a wizard with enlarge.

Re: Class/Alignment combo mechanics ?.
For clerics, your alignment determine what kinds of monsters are effected by your "Turn Enemy" spell ability. Also, it changes the amount of healing you do to other characters based on their alignment, also it changes the weapons you are proficient in. For thieves, your alignment and level...

Yeah, I like to think of "Encounter" as being things like... traps, hidden doors, combat encounters, finding treasure, solving a puzzle, unlocking a locked door/chest. If you're in a long term campaign I also like to think of like... having a useful discussion with an NPC where you learn a...

Might be unreasonable, but much of appendix N is out of print. Would be cool if they could be re-released as PDFs if printing new collections wasn't feasible.

How to create an interesting setting?
Not that I don't enjoy other settings that are out there, but I have some ideas for an interesting new setting. At least I think its interesting. And I'm wondering what might be a viable minimum amount of information or setting specific rules and information is needed to make a good setting for peop...

Re: Tips for thieves
If your theif/group spends a lot of time in cities/towns/any place with some organized government, you could let the thief have fun trying to forge documents to get players past certain guards, or requisition resources. Thieves should be able to climb walls/ceilings kind of like spiderman or a comic...
