Re: Firing into Melee
since this is being brought up again, gosh, you'd think there'd be a really nice bonus for doing missile weapons in close range. I mean... it would be easier to hit someone with a bow/arrow 10' away compared to 20', and 30', and 40', etc, not to mention there being less time for reflexive defenses a...

Re: find and remove traps
In an ideal play session, I'd allow anyone to look for secret doors if they had a specific thing in mind.. like if they saw a book-case and decided to search the book-case for a secret door, or said they were searching the wall, or whatever. So.. anyone could search with a specific area in mind, wit...

Lankhmar is connected to other worlds, who knows, maybe the necronomicon was let loose in the world along with a snarky shotgun wielding man.

Re: Color Spray spell keeps winning battles
Give them a surprise, "Evil Dead" style. When the ghouls get knocked unconcious by the spell, they fall to the ground and splinter into many smaller ghouls that are awake. Now there's double the targets.

Re: PCs alignement & Patrons
I don't think there's any restriction, but you could apply a bonus/penalty in how the patron treats the player if you wanted. A patron might be more friendly to a similarly aligned player and be more willing to forgive small mistakes, where a patron might begrudgingly accept an opposite aligned play...

Re: Thief backstab
as long as you understand that the "natural" result of the die roll is what is needed to determine success/failure of the deed itself, then it doesn't matter too much if you're squeezing a bonus to hit and to damage by burning luck.

Re: Thief backstab
One thing I would say, is you could still add luck to the deed die, it doesn't make the deed successful, but it would add +1 to hit and +1 to damage for each point of luck, but thats just the way I see it.

Re: Thief backstab
rules say you can burn luck to add to 'a roll', doesn't limit what kind of roll it is, so yes you can burn luck to add damage

Time to introduce big bads that have some protection against magical spells or something that boosts their saving throw against them? Or.. a big bad that does a spell dual with the player?

If you are still looking for some way to encourage non-murder-hoboism, you could remind your players that they get the same XP for dealing with "encounters" whether through combat or peaceful dialog or some other clever way, and may even be rewarded bonus XP or some other reward for findin...

Re: Goodman Games DCC Monster book?
Doesn't the section about monsters in the DCC rulebook make it pretty clear that they want you to be creative with your own monsters instead of relying on a book to give you all the stuff about monsters? Instead of a book that stats out monsters specifically, I could see a book that gives more rando...

Re: The series so far
Just got my copy of the lost city, OAR #4, love the book, but now I feel like having them all together on a shelf will have no over-arching spine-theme. The spine on OAR#4 is purple like the cover, #2 & #3 have red spines, and #1 has a brown spine matching its cover. Now I'm wondering if #5 will...

Re: Mighty Deeds for Monster
While I do not think monsters should have "mighty deeds" exactly like how a warrior does. I do think they can be cool by giving them special moves/attacks. My Canardian monsters have a special "duck-bill peck" attack that triggers a second follow up attack if they roll high enoug...

Re: Minor Birth Augurs for Luck 8-12
I can understand that a +0 bonus from your luck score can make the birth sign a little underwhelming, but that's just because most people in the world are unremarkable and untouched by the hands of fate, so to speak.

Re: Random encounters?
I guess if it's not really laid out as a specific suggestion in the adventure, you could do it any way you like. I keep a cummulative chance for random encounters each time I roll. So like.. first random encounter check, I roll d6 and on a 6 one happens, then on second check, I roll d6 and it happen...

I didn't say that, just that the god may be upset about giving healing to players without anything in return. You can still heal at like.. 1 HP a day with rest or something without using magic.

Re: DCC Halfling only class that's worse than Basic D&D source
Well to start with if the Halfling already has 16+ DEX it’s not much of an improvement at all; no other skill has it's effect reduced in this way. If you're generating characters as the book suggests, then how often are you going to have a halfling with 16+ Agility? Not very often at all! I just ra...

If the person playing a Cleric doesn't refuse to heal people unless they start worshiping their god, then there is something wrong with that player.

Looks like OAR #5 will be Castle Amber! With a nice amber colored cover too. Again I wonder though, if the spine will be red. Hmmm.
