Re: Luck Kind of Sucks
Currently the beta rules say that luck can be used to modify the spellcheck rolls. That's similar to using it for rolling extra damage or modifying crit rolls. I hope the use of luck with spellchecks is removed to be more consistant (plus, it seems redundant, since spellburn can be used to modify a...

What's the plan?
What's the plan between now and the release in November? Is an updated Beta document going to be released? Will any updates just come through designer comments? No updates until the release? Just curious.

Re: Luck Kind of Sucks
I believe that 'burning luck' can only be used for the following (I could not find the posts on it, so this is from memory). Combat 'to-hit' roll Saving Throw Skill Checks you cannot us it to: adjust crit rolls damage hp rolls It is fairly tight on what you can use it for to prevent abuse of the sy...

Crits without charts
I am not really a chart guy so I was thinking of a way to simplify the whole crit thing. I was thinking of just making it damage related and each chart wouled have its own die type as follows. Chart 1: d4 Chart 2: d6 Chart 3: d8 Chart 4: d10 Chart 5: d12 Then on the crit roll for every 5 of the resu...

What you really don't like . . .
To complement the "What you really like . . ." thread I decided to start this thread for the negative stuff (hey I posted a lot of positive stuff too :) ), eventhough I appear to be late to this playtesting round (oh well better late than never). I will note that I haven't played this game...

Re: Dumb idea: Two types of arcane magic
I am not really crazy about the corruption system. I would like to see it removed or limited to certain "forbiden" magic. As pointed out before, without the corruption system the entire Wizard spell casting mechanic comes apart at the wheels. That is the only thing from keeping a Wizard f...

Re: High PC Mortality in S&S?
I often wonder if 0 hit points shouldn't represent dead. et. al. I'm influenced by the games I've played over the years -- many of which have had rules that seem near-universally useful. Champions/Hero System in one edition introduced the power to change your target, and built it on the same struct...

Re: High PC Mortality in S&S?
I often wonder if 0 hit points shouldn't represent dead. It seems like if the goal is to capture the spirit of literature, then characters shouldn't die so quickly. Characters get bashed on, beaten up, and eventually knocked out. Then they heal up and eventually get back into the adventure. In this...

Re: Dice: generating "Zocchi results" using "normal" polyhed
It skews it by 25%, 16.6%, and 12.5%. That's a lot! Just throwing out an idea. Don't worry we weren't criticizing the idea  we were pointing out that it's not really a "slight" change... :D You guys just hate me. :) Seriously, the d3 and d5 are easy enough to simulate with d6s and d...

Re: Progression of levels
Is this game planning to use a standard XP progression for all classes like 3/4e? No, although it has been suggested and some of us prefer a standard XP chart. I think that the majority like the idea that each class is different and so each class should have its own XP progression. Ah, I see the XP...

Re: what you really like at first glance
There are several things I like off the bat: 1 the art 2 a unique feel to each class 3 the luck stat with a different use of it by class 4 longswords and longbows for wizards 5 the attack die and mighty deeds 6 capping out at 10th level 7 using smaller dice for extra attacks 8 the sell craft roll to...

Re: Dice: generating "Zocchi results" using "normal" polyhed
I have considered using a d4, d6, and d8 to simulate the d3, d5, and d7, and if you get the high number (I.e. 4, 6, or 8) then just use the average result instead of re-rolling. It would skew the result slightly to the average but wouldn't change the average. why would you do that? :| It's like hav...

High PC Mortality in S&S?
I have only read a few things from the Appendix N S&S material that the DCC RPG is trying to emulate, but is high PC mortality supported by these stories? The RPG Barbarians of Lemuria also tries to emulate this genre and it's take is that the PCs start off as special heroes and only get better ...

Re: 3d6, in order
I never understood the fascination of 3d6 in order. Why should player A have a significantly better PC than player B just because he had some dice luck. And if high attributes don't make significantly better PC then what is the big deal?
