Re: Character Improvement Options
I think players (and DM's) are spoiled a little bit by popular stat generation methods (4d6drop1, "heroic array", etc), and particularly, by the inherent style dictated by 3.5. What's the old quote? AD&D is normal folks doing extraordinary things and D&D 3.X is extraordinary folks...

Yes that was part of my motivation.finarvyn wrote:An excellent suggestion. I remember from reading LotR that Gandalf wasn't lacking in power as much as hesitant to use it becasue of the fear of attracting Sauron's attention. A very solid detriment to blasting everything in sight, I'm thinkiing!

Alternate Corruption Rule for ME
I was looking at the new Middle-Earth RPG (The One Ring) by Cubicle 7 and I had an idea. If you were going to run a ME campaign (in the time frame between The Hobbit and LOTR) with DCC rules you could replace the corruption rules with rules for attracting attention from Sauron (i.e. Sauron sends som...

I don't like the funnel or the lack of customization either but those things are very easy to houserule away that it doesn't concern me.

Re: Pure Zocchi - Remove the d30?
Precision dice aren't needed. Regular dice work just fine. Heretic! Not the first time I have heard that charged levied against me. :) Personally though, I don't use normal dice, and it seems a little odd to me that a game proclaiming the virtues of "the great mage Zocchi" would ac...

That's why I waited to Gen Con to get my Zocchi dice. I wanted to see and hold them before I bought.

Re: Gamestation Dice came today and I am sad
Well I picked up a handful of these Zocchi/non-standard dice at Gen Con this weekend. So now I have atleast one of every die type used by this game (plus a couple six-sided d2s just for the heck of it). Now I just need the final book.

Re: again about MDoA ...
Speaking of MDoAs, have you guys been playing that you only roll the attack die once each round and apply it to every attack (even the dwarf shield attack)? I don't like that since all of the MDoA will succeed or all fail. To me it would make more sense to reroll the attack die with every attack. I...

Re: Dice: generating "Zocchi results" using "normal" polyhed
i don't see them happening too often, since they 1) don't have huge chances (1/6 to say with d5) 2) the dice you're simulating are not widely used: you might have to roll a d5 not more than 3-4 times a session, and that's if the warrior is level 3 and uses it for MDoA I mean, i hated to roll a d14 ...

Re: Dice: generating "Zocchi results" using "normal" polyhed
How about trying it first and then you would know for sure if it is annoying or not. Well I have done rerolling before. In AD&D I would roll a d8 instead of 2d4 (I have always disliked the standard d4) and rerolled ones (yes I know the distribution is totally different but his was when I was yo...

I imagine rerolls could be annoying.finarvyn wrote:1. You're right that it probably wouldn't be a big deal.fjw70 wrote:using the d8 to simulate a d7 (with an 8 = 4) wouldn't be that big of a deal
2. Why mess with the probabilities at all? Just roll the d8 and re-roll all 8's that come up.

Re: again about MDoA ...
I was wondering about how the class die thing was going to work with 10 levels. Are they just goping to go up one die at each leve? Are they going to spreadout the d3 to d7 over 10 levels (d3 at 1st and 2nd, d4 at 3rd and 4th, etc.)? Are they going to caap the class die at d7 at 5th level? Are they ...

Re: Luck Kind of Sucks
If you want to be combat/melee heavy at first level, then you should be playing 4e. I do play that too but the 4e/DCC decision is a lot more complex than combat heavy or light. 1e, 2e, and 3e are all very brutal at 1st level. If you speak with your sword first, you WILL not survive long at 1st leve...

Re: Luck Kind of Sucks
I prefer systems that allow the player to decide the play style. If a player wants to be creative and avoid combat then a few extra hp won't stop him. However if a player wants to talk with his sword first (basically roll dice and kill things) then I would like him to have a decent chance of success...

Re: BETA: What has been learned?
I'm not sure you understand my point or possibly I've misunderstood Joseph's point. You spend a Luck point which under the current rules would be permanently gone. But under the proposed rules, the player would know they'll get that spent luck point back the next time they roll a fumble. On average...

Re: Luck Kind of Sucks
I have played many D&D games with low level characters having very little hp. One houserule I will probably put in is adding stamina hp at 1st level and not getting the stamina bonus at each level.
I will probably skip the 0 level thing altogether.

Re: again about MDoA ...
I'd rather 'nerf' the repetitious use of the same MDoA. If you're trying to trip someone every time, they might catch on... I'd raise the number needed for each consecutive repetition, until it became essentially impossible to trip the foe. No bonuses for un-imaginative thinking. I like it, and I a...

Re: Surprise?
I think you'll find surprise mechanic is a purely qualitative one, viz. "If the characters were not aware of their opponents (or vice versa), they are surprised." rather than a quantitative one (involving dice rolls and a DC). I agree. The rules should read " . . . the judge determin...
