Re: Opposed Combat Rolls?

I can anticipate one snag right away, and thats most defences are already at 3D while many heroes will not have the opposing dice-chains to match on the attack. That gives PC defenders the advantage, which is I guess a good thing. If you follow my advice by using only Potential-Harm against most to...

Thanks,

The same method could also be used for less "speedy" tasks:

E.g. Roll 1 Survival check/day. You need 2 successes to find your way out of this swamp.

Traps

Specializing and Mastery have the obvious advantage of adding more dice to win tests. However, with combats skills, they have the added advantage of being able to split your dice/attacks. We really liked this and wished that extra advantage could be added to all tests (not just combat). Then we obse...

Re: First gaming session and errata.

Interesting customization. And doing so has no "real" effect on how the dice mechanics work too, so isn't that cool? As EvilCat pointed out: the skill mechanics are the "gem" of ERP - so I didn't want to spoil that. :D How did your modifications for combat go for you? Just chang...

Re: First gaming session and errata.

Some suggested skill trees seemed strange to me and to others. After successful roll of scrutiny %) I noticed that "players and GMs are encouraged to add to or alter the lists", but I feel there should be guidelines for it, as some questions arise. Suggested list is not that universally c...

Improvable Racial Advantages

Improvable Racial Advantages Unlike the core advantages, these ones can be improved with Character Points, just like any other ability. They function like any other ability, but they are limited to a single tier of ADC. (However, clever GMs could easily add more tiers…) Dark Vision : creatures with...

If, on the other hand, you feel the system lends itself to flexibility to that degree, I'll take it as a compliment. 8) It is exactly your answers (in the posts above) that show the flexibility of this system! :D Our group loved the Action resolution system (chapter 2) and said "wouldn't it be...

Opposed Combat Rolls?

Has anyone created an "opposed" combat mechanic, instead of using pools. I know the designer (Dan Cross) mentioned some of the pitfalls to this approach, but our group can see some potential advantages as well: - No defense pools to keep track of, or refresh. - Unlike pools, where the defe...

Re: FAQ

Kudos to Banesfinger! Nice work! Thanks. I will try and update the FAQ periodically as new answers become available on the boards (sending it to the ERP team for approval - of coarse). P.S.: The FAQ's Chapter 4: Magic question (Page 40) should be updated (I believe): It currently reads: The maximum...

Re: Weapons: 1H or 2H?

For a person with two weapons, is that instead of a second roll at the end of the round? Yes. We are ruling that weilding two weapons is different than making a 2nd attack with a single weapon. Of coarse, nothing is stopping the dual weilder from taking the appropriate advantages and making a 2nd a...

Re: Questions after first play session

More questions we remembered. How should we deal with disarming and knockback/pushing in combat when using ERPS? We ran into that same situation and came to a very easy/swift solution to Pushing. Instead of making a weapon attack, you may roll the ability: Feats of Strength > Pushing & P...

Re: Weapons: 1H or 2H?

Doesn't duel wielding suffer the same issue then? What real offensive benefit is there compared to losing an entire DP (Deflect)? Or are we missing something? As suggested in my previous post: For 2H weapons (or 1H weapons weilded in two hands) - add 50% (before weapon harm bonus) to the final thre...

Re: Weapons: 1H or 2H?

We are experimenting with giving 2H weapon users (or those weilding a 1H weapon with 2 hands) a +1 upgrade to the entire Ability Dice Chain of the applicable weapon (e.g. upgrade your Melee d6 > Swords d8 > Longsword d4 to: d8 > d10 > d6, etc). One average, this works out to +1 to +3 threat/attack ...

Do you feel some 2H weapons ought to deliver extra damage? I'm always collecting ideas for optional and supplemental rules. Weapons: 1H or 2H?

My players are debating the differences between 1-handed and 2-handed weapons in ERP: Looking at the melee weapons (table on pg 60-61) they have noticed that while most 2H weapons usually cause more damage (on average they have a +1 better Harm bonus), they are slower (usually 1 less initiative bonu...

Re: Calculating Active Defence Pools (ADPs)

similarly, if I have Mastery in a weapon, I get the mastery value of that specific weapon added to my weaponry pool. If I use all my weaponry pool, then change weapons, what happens? e.g. I start out with a weapon with +20 mastery, and a weaponry ADP of 15, so my total weaponry pool is 35. I use up...

Re: Character Creation - Actual Play Questions

And finally, the group ran into some non-combat challenges. They had to swim through a river (easy: 1d4). While no one had the Agility > Swim specialization, most PCs had no problem beating the difficulty with their base Agility scores. Next they had to navigate up a steep canyon (moderate: 2d4). On...

Character Creation - Actual Play Questions

Last session we created characters. We had several questions at this point: Player 1: created a Dwarf (13 points). He wanted to be a killer Fighter type (12 points to gain the d8 each in Axe & Shield specializations) plus he boosted both his endurance & Resistance to d8 (4 points). Question ...
