Re: Loot=XP

But in doing so, you break the balance between classes. Magic-users have to gain more XP due to the power they wield, thieves level faster than other classes. The balance between classes depends on this differentiation between levels to keep things in check. By leveling the entire party at once, th...

Re: 16 DCC Level Zeroes vs. Pathfinder Level 1 Adventure

Imagine trying to run level-0 guys through some of the old Gygax adventures which are designed for parties of levels 10 to 12! Imagine this: DM : "Ok, so the village elder explains the vision he had in his dream last night: << I saw this tall figure, a skeleton wrapped in a magician's ...

Re: again about MDoA ...

Well, the problem with that is the overpowered magic missile we got in the beta! If Magic Missile could do (tops) 70 damage, with 10 missile for 1d6+1 damage, and a warrior could do 34 with two attacks in a round, well that's not too bad, considering a warrior will be able to use his weapon all the...

Re: Alternative to "3d6, in order"

Assign these scores to abilities as you like : 12, 11, 10, 9, 8, 7. Then roll 1d6 for each ability and increase it by the result. For example, let the base numbers be more like 12, 11, 10, 6, 2. This would allow a few stats to be pretty decent while at least one can be no higher than 8. Not to be d...

Re: Alternative to "3d6, in order"

I do understand where you are coming from, but I would like to caution everyone on adjusting the stats upwards too much. From my reading of the rules, the DCC RPG is designed around very little stat bonus. That a character will have one bonus (with maybe a penalty). This bonus is usually small. As ...

Re: 3d6, in order

And if anyone was wondering, I think the idea could be applied with lower base values, to create proper "3d6" characters. I think 10,9,8,7,6,5 could do. Or 9,8,7,6,5,4 if you feel really hardcore. At least you won't get a warrior with a STR or STA penalty. I've been playing around with th...

Re: 3d6, in order

HERE'S ANTHER TWIST: Have your characters roll 3d6 to generate a set of stats and arrange them in the order they like. Have then write down the values of each die instead of just the total number. (This gives a set of random base numbers similar to your original suggestion.) Then, once the numbers ...

Re: 3d6, in order

Pilgrim has a good point. You might just try "roll 4d6 keep 3" as an alternative. It'll keep things easier than having to tinker with base numbers and it shouldn't unbalance anything much. You can decide if "in order" is appropriate or not; if you let them arrange the final numb...

Re: 3d6, in order

I didn't want to start a new topic. I'm about to start a game, but there's an issue: I like random generation. My players like powerful, optimized pcs. I thought that I could find a compromise for allowing them to roughly shape the character strong and weak points before hand, and then actually def...

This was the intention. I know my friends wouldn't like to play underpowered characters. But I don't want them to play optimized characters.

Re: To Mini Or Not To Mini

in other games, like 3E or 4E, I think Minis (or surrogates, like colored pins for example) are a necessity: tactical movement is implied in the game system, and really you are screwing the game up if you take that element out of it. In DCCrpg, however, i round it worked easily without minis. What I...

Re: Zombies! What is good and what is bad?

I played it twice, a one-shot (enjoyed it a lot) and a 5-weeks game. I can tell you it's similar to World of Darkness if you look at how skills are managed. You have core STATS with a max of 5 dots in 'em, and skills with again i think a max of 5 dots in them (i'm not sure about this) Unfortunately,...

Re: Thieves, Luck and DCC RPG

Option Two is awful - in play you would end up having to define how a thief operates - by having to rule what is or isn't a thief skill you're narrowing the skill set to the Thief Skills (in capitals) and hamstringing audacious acts of improvisation. You constrain Cugel in a way that people would n...

Re: Mighty Deeds for other classes

I like "simple" too, but oversimplification can cause its own issues; the way DCCRPG treats non- humans is a perfect example (that needs its own thread). If, as you say, the oversimplification is a design strength then the designers are limited to either opening the MDoA for all classes (...

Re: Mighty Deeds for other classes

edit: I'd never allow doing extra damage as a called shot. So the "shoot him in the eye" called shot would be an option to try partially blinding your opponent, but no damage. Yes it belies logic, but hit points are abstract anyway. It may still be worthwhile against the colossus! I would...

Re: Mighty Deeds for other classes

I vote for this. It is both simple and consistent with the rules. (I take it that of course you don't add the luck burn to damage like you would with MDoAs!) And it makes sense to give Thieves and Halflings this little advantage: Unless I misunderstood what you wrote here.... You cannot 'burn' luck...

Maybe to do a MDoA non-Warriors could Burn Luck by the same amount ? This would put Thieves and Halflings at an advantage in straight combat to other non-warriors - but let's be honest, the Elf/Wizard is too busy Sleeping the opposition and slitting throats to care. I vote for this. It is both simp...

Re: Raedia of the DCC Expendables

Having female players is a great addition to any game. They give a different point of view on things, and usually their mere presence at the table is enough to prevent the "sexually-frustatred, passive-aggressive" guy, playing a barbarian, from trying to take with violence any barmaid he m...
