Re: Alternate use of Castle Whiterock

YES! It sounds like you've really embraced the modular aspect of the boxed set. (I'm also a little tickled anytime someone uses the Children of the Night-Wolf...they're based off my SCA group) Nice segues, by the way. I dig how you're stringing all the plot pieces together. I think I saw in the othe...

Also, work Benthos into your existing subplots, if it's possible. I missed that sentence on my first read-through.

Re: Castle Whiterock newbie

My group is usually only worried about treasure and power, so I have been trying to play up that angle a little bit. I see little information to expand on from CW that would get my players riled up about getting to Benthosruthsa. In several places the module mentions people that used to worship Ben...

Hobgoblin vampire recurring villain! Gotta love it.
Sounds like you're going to have to scale up the rest of the dungeon if they're already so high level.

Re: Castle Whiterock newbie

Any tips or tricks to running this massive adventure? I can offer a bit of help with this one. Over a long crawl, your players are going to need motivation beyond "kick the door, kill the baddies." After you've read through the entire thing, encourage them to build characters that somehow...

Glad you guys liked it. I take it from the tone of the previous two posts that you finished the entire thing? That's pretty impressive!

That's delicious what you're doing with the Pack. All those characters were based off buddies of mine and their SCA personas...they'll love the stories.

Too bad about poor Talladay, though. Poor little halfling...

Re: A New Character Sheet From GnomeBoy...???

I haven't tried it out yet, but from an aesthetics POV I'd like to see it extended to two pages. A lot of info get clumped together, like "Feats and Languages" and the whole "init" to "willpower" column. I'd rather see that broken into sections, like "Defenses,&quo...

Re: Narborg question (Whiterock spoilers)

I'm kinda sleepy here, just got back from an awesome concert, so don't quote me, but I'd rule thusly: If his ability to shapechange is anything other than an extraordinary ability (I'm thinking it's supernatural) then it counts as a magic effect that changes his size, so "no," he can't the...

Re: Palace in the Wastes question.

Your answer is in the notes at the beginning of level three. Before the Axe of Unmaking awoke, level three was on average 70 feet beneath level two, making it 140 feet below ground level. As the text indicates, however, the warping effects of the Axe make it hard to put an exact "place" on...

Re: DCC Tournament 2009

First off, I'd like to thank all the teams who played in the tourney. We had an amazing turnout this year: 38 teams and about 178 individual players. If you do the math (and I mean "you," not me, 'cause I'll get it wrong) then all told there were something like 1,008 people/hours played fo...

Year Seven Tournament Preview

One of the things we strive for is to make each year's tourney "different" in some way. Here are three changes in store for the next tourney: - Set party. I love the "choose-a-team" design, but it can lead to teams getting hosed because they didn't take THE ONE CHARACTER that was...

Re: Narborg question (Whiterock spoilers)

If I were the DM, I'd say "yes" to both cases. If you are the DM, it's up to you. The warded walls spell protecting Narborg is from DCC #21: Assault on Stormbringer Castle , and I believe that didn't specifically mention dimension door (hence its absence in CW ), but the intent is the same.

Re: Scroll of Ruin Tournament: Trading Tickets and Finding Teams

For Round One, there is always some mix-and-match going on. Maybe two guys bail here, maybe one guy bails there, maybe four guys with generics want to get in. Happens every year, and we try to accomodate as many people as we can. After a team goes through Round One, my ability to mix-and-match goes ...

Re: Scroll of Ruin Tournament: Trading Tickets and Finding Teams

Hey Doc, Minimum team size is three. I'll have a list of people at the tourney command post in the lobby of the Crowne Plaza for people looking to get into rounds. You should check in there to fill out a team, or to say "hey," or to see if there are any last-minute location changes. Make s...

Re: Review of Isle of the Sea Drake

(bows to recognize the hat tip)

Thanks! I really like the art in ISD, too. Doug Kovacks completely nailed piece after piece on the interior art, and Eric Lofgren gave it a great cover (which, incidentally, is much better than my original cover suggestion).
