Re: Cosmology & Setting
So, it sounds like the consensus is that there should be a section with rules/guidelines for world building in the main rules, with perhaps an appendix with an example cosmology/setting and an appendix with an example pantheon at the back of the book. Otherwise all setting information should be rele...

Re: The sales staff won't like my suggestion....
I am going to partially agree with you. There will be places where the magic is lost. For example, when the players start to really learn the spell charts. This is unavoidable even if the players don't have a copy of the book and have never read it. Eventually they will learn what rolling below 11 m...

Re: Alignment & Clerics
Lawful, Chaotic, Good, Evil, and Unaligned (I like the suggestion to change Neutral to Unaligned) Each character has a Primary alignment that is the most important alignment to them and their outlook on life. Secondary alignment is something that can change over time or by situation. Example: For s...

Cosmology & Setting
The following bit of conversation got me wondering, so I thought a new thread would be appropriate. I think you guys might be on the same page. Nominal Setting : Áereth. In the core book? I can't imagine how. But again, I'm not calling the shots. I'll leave this one to Joseph, input from the fans, a...

Re: Spellcraft Checks
I like what you are saying, Andy. :) You have some good ideas. I believe that Andy's post was essentially quoting the playtest doc, not his suggestion of what should be in the RPG. Ok. It looks different than what I remember from the playtest I did in February. Perhaps I misread his initial post. E...

Re: dcc rpg at garycon
I'd like to see less setting, just the facts of the attributes, features and required mechanics. But that's me, you'll probably get a zillion people saying it should have setting. So call me the rebel here. :) I'll be your retainer on this one. +1 from me on less setting. Thanks for your review, Ch...

Re: Alignment & Clerics
White Wolf's oWoD has the concept of "Nature and Demeanor." Each PC has one of each and there are archetypes to choose from for the character like "Rebel" or "Judge." Perhaps something similar to this is worth considering in place of the traditional alignment system? De...

Re: Alignment & Clerics
I encourage everyone to check out common house-rules to D&D. One of the biggies is "We Don't Use Alignment", since at least the days of 2e. I know I was playing in groups that ignored alignment altogether since at least 1988. I think there's a reason for that. LOL. Well, you know what...

Re: Alignment & Clerics
Fair enough. I was just having some fun there with the airline thing. Which is exactly why we are here. :D If it wasn't fun, we wouldn't be having this discussion. I see 80-90% predetermination as being too prescriptive. I don't think alignment should tell us anything about a character's moral make...

Re: Alignment & Clerics
These are exactly the kind of moral quandries that D&D's treatment of Alignment brings into play. Am I wrong for thinking that they don't belong at an rpg table? I don't think you are wrong for thinking that. I will say that the "You're no hero. You are a cutpurse..." description indi...

Re: Alignment & Clerics
Lawful Good is not synonymous with hero. I will give an example. Please tell me what you think. In a game I was playing a Paladin of Iomedae (a Lawful Good goddess) in a Pathfinder game. In the game we happened upon a village of Orcs. Since Orcish society breeds only Evil alignments, my character s...

Re: Alignment & Clerics
I'd say two things. First, if alignment is prescribing 80-90% of my actions, it's no longer a guideline. 10% isn't much wiggle room, unless you're a halfling. If you think it is, make sure you're sitting next to me on my next flight. We can talk shop and I'll have plenty of room to stretch out. 10%...

I have to agree with fireinthedust about the alignments of comic book characters. Now for my $0.02 US... From the parts of Appendix N which I have read over several years (the Amber novels, Tolkien, one Conan story, several Fafhrd & Grey Mouser stories, some of Lovecraft, St. Clair's "The S...

Yeah, those covers rock! Absolutely! I love that art. It just screams "Play Me". BTW, I recommend picking up "Sailors on the Starless Sea" when it is available. I was lucky enough to get to playtest it. I won't give any spoilers. I will just say that I had an amazing time playin...

Really looking forward to GaryCon. The game has come so far since the last playtest, and we have some exciting adventures to run. That, plus a timely pilgrimage. No better way to honor the elders. //H I hope you and Joseph have a great time at GaryCon. I (and many others on this board) are eagerly ...

Re: Have your attitudes towards DCC RPG changed since Jan. 3
How has everyone else's attitudes towards the game changed since Jan. 3rd? I playtested this game back in September at Tacticon. I was sold on it then. The designer blogs and the conversations here have made me more excited. But the thing that really sealed the deal for me was the playtest at Gengh...

Keep in mind theRPGsite, run by RPGPundit is a haven for people banned from other forums and its policy is to allow swearing, invective, etc. There's some great people there, some great stuff posted, but also a lot of rant that many other forums would not allow. Thus, strong opinion and hyperbole i...

Re: Designer's Blog #3: What Do You Mean, "Vancian"?
We’ve got it formatted such that spellcasting is “flip-free.” In play I pass out the “spell pages” to the wizard for his spells – each spell is on one 8.5x11 page, and the wizard PCs usually have 4-6 of these depending on level. It’s easy to reference. In the final printed book the spell tables wil...

@finarvyn, I don't think the OP was asking for a DCCRD right now, taking time away from the game's development. He just wanted to know if GG plans to make it available for 3rd party products. Correct. I realize that the game needs to be finished first. There has been lots of talk about 3PP, I was j...

I have not read Bernard Cornwell, but I will have to check him out. I absolutely love GRRM, but after having to wait two years for "A Storm of Swords" and then five years for "A Feast for Crows" I decided that I am going to buy them in hardcover as they are published and not read...

Re: Designer's Blog #3: What Do You Mean, "Vancian"?
Yeeeeaaahhh.... meh, to me that seems boring. I don't want to do math, I want spells to be organic, different. Yeah, Mr Goodman's original table has a lot more flavor, I don't deny that. But pair that with say, 10 spells per level x 9 spell levels, and the spell section of the core book will be HUG...

This one is really just a bit of curiosity. 3.x has the d20 SRD (http://www.d20srd.org/). Pathfinder RPG has the PRD (http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/). Are there any plans afoot to publish a "DRD" to allow the publication of compatible, but non-official, supplements? It might be fun if...
