Re: Designer's Blog #1: What It Is, And What It Isn't

As far as Ebooks are concerned, I'd love to see some stripped down pdfs that are better suited for printing and mobile viewing. If I need to access something from my Archos 70, I don't need art, I need the information, and I need it fast, I don't have time to wait for it render on a tablet with limi...

Re: So, what about combat?

Hers's another. In a 2e game, I rolled a mu/cleric multiclass. I rolled a 2 and a 1 on hit point rolls. Divide that in half and you get 1.5 which rounds down to one. Paired with my low con gave me one hit point at first level. So, one hit from anything and I was dead. The dm didn't want to kill me, ...

I have a Nook Color. Any idea if the formats are interchangible?
I'm not sure, I have an Archos 70, it runs on Android, but there's a Kindle app for it.

If you have an internet phone or tablet you can get tons of oop books from the Kindle store for free. I'm reading through the ERB books again, been years since I've read him, though I did reread the John Carter series a couple years ago.

Re: Game balance

I still maintain that the 1E mu wasn't all that even at high levels. If he managed to get a spell off, which wasn't a given, he could on;y do it a limited amount of times per day. A 20th level mu could cast TWO 9th level spells. In the best circumstances, the party will have a 6 for initiative and t...

Re: So, what about combat?

Our 3e campaign had a tpk one night, so instead of rerolling characters, which would have consumed most of the session, we grabbed my Basic D&D set and started a game. One guy opted not to play, so that left a dm and 2 players. We each rolled 2 characters. I had a mu with amazing stats. An 18 an...

Re: Game balance

As do I, the above restrictions are pretty simple, really. If you wanna cast, you have no dex bonus and you can't move. Tossing those rules make the magic user MUCH more powerful. Nothing wrong with that if that's how you wanna play, but a lot of people change the rules and THEN complain that the ma...

Re: The DCC RPG and Spellslinging

Hmmm. Suppose a first level wizard knew all the spells of a certain school or theme. Every level. He wouldn't be able to cast most of them at all, and some he could cast if he got very lucky, and the low level spells, he'd generally be able to pull off. A first level wizard would need a 28 to cast m...

Re: Game balance

In AD&D, it was insanely hard for a magic user to even get a spell off if one played by by the rules. An mu could not move and could not even use his dex bonus while casting a spell, if he did, the spell was lost for the day. Spells had casting times, so the mu generally went last, unless he was...

Re: Power scale of DCC

I'm liking what I'm hearing here. I want to put 10 more cents in... I'd like an option to weaken magic. Save or Lose is not what the game is supposed to be about. Actually, I quite like save or dies when used sparingly. High level magic should be feared. It's easy enough to disallow those spells if...

Re: Power scale of DCC

But you need not worry, this game has power deflation , if anything! That's good to hear. It's not just how powerful pcs are, I still want them to be able to do cool stuff, I just want the cool things to have lower numbers attached to them. In my Pathfinder game, the ranger with kukris (d4 damage w...

Power scale of DCC

One of the things that turns me off most of 3e/Pathfinder is the power level. Stats are inflated way too much. If an 18 is the highest a normal person can achieve, magic should be able to exceed this limit, but not ridiculously so. I'd like to see the old cap of 25 in place, or something similar. Th...

C&C is like any other game, even if C&C is "familiar". It still takes time to realize how C&C works, and what its weak areas were. I waited until we played up to 5th level before I started instituting house rules. 5th level in C&C takes a long time, like it does in 1E and ...

Well, both climb and scale use dex according to the PHB. I just looked it over and it seems no check is neccesary for "steep, but rocky" natural inclines, so maybe we got that part wrong. But a cl 1 man-made wall, you can't climb, yet a cl 10 natural incline, you can? Seems to me a rock is ...

Several things spring to mind. First, Dex is a must prime. Without it, pcs can't climb anything. I'm not talking about thief type climbing, but trees, rough rock faces, etc. With a 10 dex and no prime, you'd need 1 19 to climb a cl one task. That's without penalizing for armor, etc. And if add level...

There's plenty of humor in our games, just none of the over the top stuff. No vampires polymorphing into Robins, no Gargirls, flatulence flaws, crap like that. Basicly we default to 1e, and add things from Hackmaster that we like, like penetration, spells, etc. Pretty much 1e with Hackmaster attitud...

I'd run it in a bastardized 1eAD&D/Hackmaster. I'm currently running a bastardized 3e/1e game, but it's getting to be way too much of a headache at high levels. We're about to finish up Hall of Many Panes and when that's done, I'm back to the 1e/Hackmaster game.
