Re: Luck question
Ok, I'm starting to see the use now. And I have for many, many years preferred to interpret skill/attribute checks with degrees of success, rather than a simple, binary "success/failure". Make your roll by 10?? That will get you amazing results, if amazing results are to be had... And a Ro...

Re: Luck question
Thanks for the replies, guys. I don't remember reading about other attribute checks having a "roll under" way of doing it, at all (although admittedly that is a possibility). I always thought this was very specific to Luck. I've always done it that if I don't have a DC then I follow the gu...

Luck question
I know the rules say that when you make a "Luck Check" you looking to roll under your current luck score. So when a module sets a DC for a luck roll it that a equal to or higher, or still roll under? Basically my question is: when making luck rolls do you always want to roll under the numb...

Re: New Judge for Free RPG Day, need advice
I don't typically allow for characters to level up during a session. That stuff happens in between game sessions, which means not at all for a one-shot adventure. As you noted, the level-up process can be very lengthy particularly if the players are novices. Thanks dude, I agree and that's what I d...

Re: New Judge for Free RPG Day, need advice
Yubacore, You'll do fine. Just let the players have fun. When they finish having fun with one scenario, move to the other. The game really takes care of itself. As far as initiative, I like to make little index card tents with the players names when the players arrive. Ahead of time you can already...

Re: A few questions
Hey thanks for the response, and answering my questions! I don't know how I missed the racial 0-level traits. Thank you for pointing those out. The Elf and Wizard differences make a bit more sense now, elves are more rare indeed. Also, thanks for clarifying the player to level 1 character ratio. I'm...

A few questions
Question the first: The Wizard vs the Elf. Am I missing something or is being an Elf like being a Wizard but way more awesome? There is the iron thing, but other than that the Elf seems way better. Question the second: Do racial abilities count at level-0 (Infra vision, smell gold etc.)? It dose say...

Re: New Judge for Free RPG Day, need advice
Glad to offer assistance. Remember that there are a couple of key goals in a one-shot store session: (1) Make sure folks have fun (2) Give folks a look at the way the game plays so they can see how this game differs from others they might have played (3) Try to finish the session at an "end&qu...

Re: New Judge for Free RPG Day, need advice
Thank you for the welcome! Thank you for such a wonderful response! It was good to hear about someone who was doing the same thing as I am about to, although I sure you had more GM experience than me overall. The way this game store dose it is the 4-hour block route, so plenty of time for Sailors, g...

New Judge for Free RPG Day, need advice
Hello, I've run my first game/0-level funnel recently, we did Sailors on the Starless Sea. I had such a blast and was so psyched about it that I went right over to my local game store where I attend Free RPG Day every year and offered to run it on that coming up day. I'm excited, but I'm also a bit ...
