I think my confusion in terms of the "defender's spell is lost" stems from the "Lost" entries on the spell charts, which, unless I'm totally missing something, means the wizard loses the use of said spell until it is regained the following day (or through spellburn). It dawned to...

Under Spell checks by other classes shouldn't it be Table 1-9 instead of 1-7?

Find Familiar and Patron Taint
I noticed that a spell check result of "1" for Find Familiar lists "Lost, failure, patron taint, and corruption."
I am assuming that patron taint is ignored if the character doesn't have a patron, since nothing specifically states that the wizard needs a patron to find a familiar?

Two Questions about Table 4-6: Counterspell Power
Question One: Results 1, 2, and 3 for the Defender High column state "defender's spell lost" at the end of the entry. In the Spell Dueling example, Magnus rolls a 3 on the table during round one, but doesn't seem to lose magic shield because he uses it as a counterspell again in round two....
